I am having a hard time finding shorts that aren't too short for work and such. I don't want them to be too long where they're going to my knees or beyond... but I don't want them to be so short my butt hangs out either lol
I thought about just making my own. Hit up some local thrift stores and find some pants/jeans I like that would make good shorts and just make my own.
How can I do this without them looking trashy/tacky? How can I prevent strings dangling from the cutting? What would be the best way to cut pants/jeans into shorts and have them still look good and presentable? I also want them to be straight and not look uneven or be too short in one area and not on the other.

Making your own shorts from pants or jeans is a great way to find a pair that fits your personal style and comfort. Here are some tips to turn your pants into presentable shorts:
Measure and mark: First, put on the pants and decide where you want to cut them. Use a measuring tape to make sure that the length is appropriate for your workplace and personal style. Use chalk or a pencil to mark the desired length.
Cut carefully: Use sharp scissors to cut the pants along the marking. To prevent fraying, make sure to cut in a straight line and avoid pulling the fabric. If you want a frayed or distressed look, use sandpaper or a cheese grater to gently rub the edges of the fabric.
Hem the edges: Fold the bottom edges of the shorts up to create a hem. Pin in place, and then use a sewing machine or hand stitch to secure the hem. This will prevent the shorts from fraying and give them a finished look.
Iron: After cutting and hemming, iron the shorts to smooth out any wrinkles or creases.
Experiment with embellishments: To make your shorts more unique, try adding some embellishments such as patches, embroidery, or studs.
Remember to take your time and be careful when cutting and sewing. With a little patience and effort, you can create a pair of presentable shorts that you can wear to work or for any occasion.
