Why is my eyelash serum causing irritation now after using it for 5 months?

I have the Lash Australia eye serum, it has little ingredients that are said to be natural, so I purchased that rather than some that have ingredients 20 letters long. For the past few weeks my lash line has been very red and itchy. The ends of the eyes are the same. If I rub it too hard the redness increases. Some mornings the irritated area becomes flaky and dry. Why is this? I’ve been using this serum since the beginning of this year and I’ve never had any issues until now. It has made my lashes grow significantly so I will be sooo upset if I have to discontinue using it. Has this happened to anyone else? Are there natural alternatives to increase my lash growth? I heard castor oil helps but I’m not too sure.

I’d advise you to go and see a doctor. It could be an allergic reaction or just irritation. You said that you used it for a couple of months now and never had any problems with it, but some allergies develop gradually over time as a result of repetitive exposure to ingredients. I don’t know how to explain it since I’m not in the medical field but I remember reading somewhere about it. Basically, at first your skin “fights” off the irritating ingredients without you really noticing symptoms, instead, they start appearing later.

About castor oil, I know a few people who used it and they said it really helped them with lash growth.

This is probably the dumbest thing that someone can do to their body. You only get one pair of eyes and yet you are putting a hormone that has prostaglandin. Prostaglandins are produced in the uterus among other places and it responsible for the ebb and flow of the menstrual cycle. You have tiny little oil-secreting glands that your eyelashes sit in and they are responsible for lubricating your eyes. If those glands it clogged or irritated you can get nasty clogged pores that are the equivalent have a zit on your eyelid. Those usually have to be lanced with a scalpel. If you wear fake eyelashes you could even have mites, called Demodex on your eyelashes.

My serum and a lot of others doesn’t contain prostaglandins. Only a few do.

Just because you have been using something for x amount of time, does not mean that over time your body won't have a reaction to that product. Maybe you received a bad batch, or maybe they changed an ingredient in the product. Either way, you need to stop using it and see a doctor

Yeah I will. I’m still using the same bottle from this year, I haven’t gotten a new one that may of had a bad batch. But yeah maybe my skin just doesn’t agree with it anymore :/

I use it once every night, I don't know though I’ve heard other people had the same issue as me with eye serums. My eyes are okay it’s just I need the redness to go away ahaha it looks like red eyeliner

You inject it in your eyes and it temporarily changes your eye colour to whatever you want. Plus it grows your lashes
