Are corsets as shirts inappropriate?

Underwear as outerwear is in fashion. Imagine people back in the day seeing the fashion standards today. Do you think celebrities embracing some odd/controversial clothes the culprit to what our fashion is today? We’ve come a long way in the fashion realm from the 80s, 60s, 2000s, etc. I find some corset tops passable, but anything that looks like lingerie is inappropriate. I have seen corset tops that don’t have lace, see through, string and would definitely pass as a shirt because it dosent look like a traditional corset. What do y'all think of this trend?

Yes, back in the day it was underwear, but it turned into outerwear.

I think it depends on the corset, some corsets are easily work as outerwear, but they're are a few styles that just don't look right as outerwear. I might be biased though since I go to the Renaissance Faire every year and people wear corsets all the time!

Oh I love wearing these tops. I wear corset tops to work that are not borderline underwear sheer see through to your nipples style! 😂 There are corset tops that are styled to almost compliment as a layering piece with a blazer or a nice jacket in the office and by itself during happy hours. Some looked too “underwear” to be worn by itself.

Ok first off - not all corsets look like lingerie. I have a corset shirt that - aside from its tightness and the ribbons in the front - does not look like lingerie. It looks more a short sleeve black ballet shirt than anything. My mom even said it looked cute on me and I’ve even worn it to school before. Secondly, for the ones that do look like lingerie, it depends on where you’re wearing it to. If you’re wearing to festivals, concerts, the fair, etc. then that’s fine. If you’re wearing it to work, that might be deemed inappropriate.

I see this everywhere recently. I honestly don't like it. People don't dress decently anymore.

I probably can wear it with a jacket or blazer on top, but not alone. You can dress sexy by not being too revealing. Being a mystery is still better

To be fair, no one looks good in one as "outerwear" and it just makes you look bedraggled and lazy.

I love the corset top trend a lot and I don’t think it’s inappropriate at all. It’s completely normal and it’s really interesting to me how fashion trends evolves and changes overtime

When I was young and even a young adult they were underwear and you would never allow any portion of your underwear to ever be exposed. You would also never be seen outside of the house in anything that was considered to be pajamas.

Its a literally wonderful trend , worn well of course , the example is very tidy , but would only be appropriate in a nightclub , there are other options , all very nice.
