I definitely did not fit the 90's beauty standard, but I definitely fit today's. Curvy, golden ratio, smaller waist, etc.

Society is so fickle. I was looking at pictures of "great beauties" of the past and oof! You never know what's going to be in from one generation to the next!

If you mean "In" in the fashion and media sense, it's not representative of that is desired by the average person. Research shows that men have universally liked women with wide hips and small waists for millennia [https://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Devendra_Singh]. In pre-industrial society it was almost impossible to become Curly in the non-muscular sense because of heightened physical activity.

Only Body Positivity activists in Media, or Feminine men in fashion, have tried to obscure this.

@Bl0n6eguy Depends on the area. Royals in Europe set off trends that had men chasing women with stick figure bodies. Ancient China Tang Dynasty felt that women with fatter barrel waists and no curves were the most attractive. Princesses Zahra, Fatemeh, and Esmat of Persia were part of a whole trend of chubby, manly looking great beauties. Royals had a habit of changing what people saw as beautiful.

Fair enough, but I don't consume media, and I think it's quite normal for people to be attracted to others who look like them; since I have a small waist for a man, it makes sense that I find it attractive in women too.

"Beauty Standards" are what you hear from a cultural authorities; and what I am saying is that these cultural authorities decree the ideal look rather than reflect the popular one, so it is a less reliable representation of what it is before this outside authority's influence.

@wolfcat87 Maybe that is the case today. Historically that just isn't true. Look at European art from the 1400s-1700s, it depicts volumptuous women. They believed at that time that a chubbier woman was healthy and better able to carry a child.

@Wraith_Cemetery It really depends on the time and place. France today still prefers stick figure women, and so do Japan and Korea. On the other hand, Africa, South America, and North America prefer curvy for the most part as well as some European countries. Something being popular in one area doesn't means something else isn't popular somewhere else at the same time. The opposite has always been true. That's why we have so many different countries and cultures. People just can't agree.

Social beauty standards and expectations are one of the worst things anyone has to face. They often impose unreal expectations and are pushed by people such as social media influencers using photo shopped photos or heavily make up muiltiple take images.

Societal beauty standards are forever changing, so technically everyone fits those standards, as at some point in time you would have had the “perfect” body shape or “perfect” face type.
