More and more obese women in commercials and even Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Praise for obese women who wear tight or revealing clothing in public.

I think the main problem is that being healthy and what’s considered to be pleasing aesthetics have become mixed up to the point where people can’t tell the difference.

One major factor is that women have had a beauty ideal forced on them, irregardless of whether it’s healthy or not and are tired of being told if we don’t fit that mould then we’re not good enough. Women have done and continue to do many ridiculously unhealthy things to look slim, and it still doesn’t mean they were healthy!

Plus now there’s a greater diversity of cultures that also believe bigger is better and a fair dose of men who do think that the woman in your picture is super sexy.

50 years ago Women were “ashamed” not because it was unhealthy but because men and society told them it was unattractive. THAT’S what they’re kicking against - being judged for what they look like - NOT for being healthy. And 50 years ago women were being prescribed dieting pills DURING pregnancy so they didn’t become overweight and unappealing to their husbands. How exactly is that healthy?

Personally, my aim is to be healthy. I try to eat a well balanced diet, I exercise moderately, focusing on strength building and toning and have an active lifestyle. This helps my mental health too and the byproduct of this is I’m slim enough and reasonably healthy. I could do more, I’ll never be skinny, but I'm still more flexible than most people half my age. I’m content and I’m sure I’ll slim down a bit more overtime with continued healthy lifestyle and that’s good enough for me.

It’s really sad we keep going to different extremes. In the early 2000s underweight thin women were the beauty standard and now it’s overweight women being promoted and called healthy? There’s nothing healthy about being overweight and nothing healthy about being underweight

Back in the ‘20, s and ‘30’s if a woman was overweight, she was considered to be “healthy”. Of course this was before vaccines and other advances in healthcare. If a woman was thin, it was an indication of poor health.
Nowadays, because fewer and fewer people must work a farm to keep from starving, there are multitudes of quick, easy ways to feed themselves. Now, the same caloric requirements required to maintain the same energy levels to work are no much lower due to our sedentary lifestyles. At one time, the required caloric intake requirements was 2000 calories a day. Now, l believe the ideal caloric intake is 1200 per day for a sedentary lifestyle. This is why exercising is so important. Americans are very lucky to have access to such high calorie foods and must find other ways to work them off. So, now men and women must accept that their partners will have a few extra pounds.

Well Capitalism makes money off of a health crisis that has been accelerating out of control for decades by selling ‘market solutions’(XL+ clothing).

Just so, we are all on the same page we didn’t care about the health crisis until women started getting ‘bigger’ because men tended to be more overweight, now it is a health crisis on both genders.

We aren’t going to fix this until we fix 1. Too much sweets & sugar in foods we eat, beverages, etc. 2. We acknowledge that being fitter is a healthier form factor 3. We have body positivity / no body shaming since it takes an open mind also compassion to move towards bettering ourselves then lifting all of us out of this crisis.

Yea. The US has gone full commitment to the propaganda that peoples feeling always matter more than facts - particularly for women. When I walk into Target and see the fat mannequins only on the female area and the male mannequins are all still rocking athletic bodies with broad shoulders and six packs - it says it’s now mainstream. Corporate America does not want to offend the dominant consumer in their stores so they steer clear.

The girl in that pic you offered is certainly overweight. Perhaps not clinically obese but she’s a big girl. That’s absolutely her right to be that but I don’t think it looks very healthy.

I/ we see it every day, especially on TV adds and many of the women are HUGE, and it just disgusts me to see that the media is allowing obesity to become the Normal body configuration. I see adds on TV for medication for diabetes and the 'subjects are all obviously over weight or obese and that is probably the reason they are diabetic.

My cousin was morbidly obese, and developed Type 2 diabetes, and recently died from Carotid Artery and Heart main artery blockage, due to her diet and no exercise.

It's pretty simple, Americans have freedom of th press. If they want to print magazines with fat girls in them, they can. That said, they will not reach a huge audience.

Obesity in either sex is widely accepted. I'm ok with body positivity BUT NOT if it conflicts with basic health. You can be fat and healthy. It doesn't work that way.
