I think the "woke" part of "fat acceptance" is in not humiliating and discriminating against people simply because they're fat. And encouraging fat people to love themselves as they are, and to not wait until they are some other weight: as in weighing less.

The only thing wrong with this outlook is the health angle. It's fine for Lizzo to accept herself as she is. But for her to think that 300 pounds is a healthy weight for someone who is not 7 feet tall is ludicrous.

But, there do seem to be studies that indicate a genetic propensity toward obesity. So truly obese people have a difficult time changing their weight permanently. It would have to be a lifelong commitment. Few people are able to do this for more than a short period of time, and therefore, the yo-yo of weight loss and regain.

Medicine might be able to solve some of this in the near future. Otherwise, it remains a struggle for the people struggling with it. These folk and others have to accept the difficulty of this situation and be kind.
