I support the body positivity movement to an extent, what I PERSONALLY don't support is women exposing their bodies to the world to show the world that they're confident in their bodies.. I think there's no need to do all that.
Nevertheless I feel like they're using this "body positivity" to promote obesity.
By all means, obese people should love themselves... But to me it's like they're promoting an unhealthy lifestyle.
It's like they're saying: It's okay to be obese, just be confident and don't care about what others think of you.
They say that ^ instead of encouraging them to live a healthy lifestyle.
The worst part is that there are great people out there, who encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle but by saying that you're basically being "hateful" or being extremely "judgmental". This world keeps going left.

Have any of you heard or understand genuine disorders that cause normal, healthy, people to be over weight? I understand that obesity can be caused by an unhealthy lifestyle and laziness, but not always. There's thyroid decrease and simple genetics that lead to a slow metabolism. For these people its damn near impossible for them to lose weight. I have a very close friend who is over 200lbs who is fit and healthy, but her body just doesn't show it. If frustrates me, and deviates her, that no matter what she does people always assume that she's unhealthy and guise fat shaming as a concern for her health. Well, the doctor she sees regularly gives her a clean bill of health with no high cholesterol, good blood pressure (better in fact than most our age probably because she exercises more than you people criticizing her), and she passes a pressure test with no issue. She hikes, swims, rock climbs, and can keep up with people half her age. Fat does not always equal burgers and laziness! In fact she probably eats less calories in a day than most of you because her body holds too much weight naturally. I've known her almost my whole life, and trust me, she eats like a bird! Its people like her who want to include "obeses" people in the body positive movement because she's healthy and big, and is tied of the discrimination.
It's not mutually exclusive tho. You can support fat people while encouraging healthy living. It might help to read on the perspectives of people who have eating disorders on both ends of the spectrum and what it is like, u might learn a lot.
It's like they're saying: It's okay to be obese, just be confident and don't care about what others think of you. They are, because it's true, and people respond much more to that than being criticised and bullied and called out. Rare to find someone under weight or over weight who isn't thinking of it every second of every day, and the comments here have probably made a few dozen people feel really shitty about themself. It isn't kind or helpful.

I've never seen this, and I'm a teenage girl with a history of an eating disorder who lives on the internet. Maybe it happens tho... But if u truly are encouraging and come from a place of support and not a place of judgement then no one cares. If people are responding badly and saying u are being hateful or judgy then check yourself, u probably are without knowing it.
I come from a place of support, I wouldn't say anything that would cause them to feel hurt, I'm also very conscious about everything I say so I know I'm not being hateful, nowadays people throw the world "hateful" & someone being judgmental like it's nothing. They'll even go to the extremes to call you out of your name just because you want the best for someone.
@006kingifrit simply not true. Shame isn't promoting healthy living, it's ridiculing their current living and making them feel worse. It's been proven in many many many studies to not be helpful.

White vs black, Men v women, rich vs poor, legal vs illegal Trsangender v everyone else, gay rights campaigns even though they have equal rights, and yes the promotion of obesity being beauty is part of this demoralization and further fall into decadence - our fall from grace is complete when we can't even agree on what is a man or woman anymore. The left has built up communities of "oppression" which include an obese woman not being called beautiful. They will continue down this road until they have a majority or their supporters realize the dishonesty behind such narratives.

"Body positivity" is simply a more acceptable way of denying personal responsibility for your health and appearance.
If these people got the chance to turn slim in an instant, they will. Body positivity is clearlyanother term forcope. Them showing their obese bodies to the world is them simply lying to not only themsevles, but to society that they are "happy" in their own skin. The reality is, they are FAR from happy. These are the type of people who try and demand respect from others while posting nice quotes on their IGs about body positivity. It's all a facade and an attempt to run away from the responsibility of taking care of themsevles. Meaning: They are weak and pathetic people.
I agree 100% I dont want anyone sad of depressed about their looks but some of the really big girls take not feeling bad about it and twist it into full on pride. That's not right, dont be proud if being morbidly obese, it's not a good look and it's a health risk, you are not healthy at any size.
I'm fat, far less fat than some women who now act proud and it pisses me off, I'm not proud, why would I be? I started going to the gym and am working on healthier food, I'm not super depressed about my looks but I'm trying to change them.
I dont want the fat girls to be sad, and I dont want people to bully them, but for them to be sooooo proud of it kind of bothers me cause they have missed the point of this acceptance movement.
Not all obese people are obese because they eat junk or don't exercise, you need to remember there are genetic causes and diseases as well.
I agree we should encourage people to love their bodies, which includes doing what they can to keep themselves healthy so they can live long happy lives. But I don't think it's anyone's place to tell someone to lose weight or that they are unattractive. I think if someone comes and asks for help in getting fit that's different and then you can advise them of how to go about it, otherwise it's really no one's business if they are obese.
I don't think it's advocating for people to be obese, it's just advocating that not everyone is model material and that's okay; that's the message they are trying to send.
Let me reply to your question with another question.
Why are women normalizing unnecessary breast augmentation? They know it will be harmful to their health sooner or later just like obese are perfectly aware that they live an unhealthy life. What about those guys that put silicone 6 packs just so that they can appear better looking? They are all in the same boat. At least, a number of obese people have the excuse that they have rare diseases like hypothyroidism or Cushing's syndrome. Those that have breast augmentation have no excuse unless they have been botched by nature and need breast adjustment, usually reduction and not augmentation.
Let's not demonize just obese people but all those that knowingly do harm to their body with the lifestyle they are choosing to live.

Because ultimately, the truth hurts. Also in a capitalistic society, there's a tendency to want to appeal to everyone, and offending a certain type of person is not good practice. So we normalize lies to make everyone feel good and it seeps into every orifice of our culture.
This is why our nation is in such a sorry state... You have people that demand truth and the importance of upholding it, and you have a foolish demographic of people that hate the truth, because they've been coddled by lies and when someone comes by with the harsh or inconvenient truth, the foolish ones are met with their true reality and feelings. It's not the feel-good lies they've subscribed to so they feel bad.

I don't think it matters. If people want to be obese let them. Don't impact others and it's there choice. It's also unhealthy to drink but won't see me go to a pub and tell people not to drink. If a person wants to be fat it's there personal choice and i don't see anything wrong with that. So it is normalized to me. And telling someone to live a healthy life style is kinda annoying if you don't want to. It's like if i play video games then someone tells me not to. I am gonna tell that person to mind there own business.
Most normal people know obesity is ugly but telling a fat person they are ugly often just makes them even fatter when they give up on their weight loss goals thinking it’s unattainable because nobody encourages them with compliments - I’ve never met a fat person who became even fatter because people treated them well - what I have observed is fat people getting fatter because people treat them badly
I think exactly the same. I mean, there's no need to bodyshame someone, everyone should mind their own business, but I think that people who are obese just because of their unhealthy lifestyle, are lazy and have a very weak will. I don't see why I should support or see beauty in an unhealthy body.
As someone who is somewhat overweight, I agree with what you're saying. Let's not encourage gluttony or harmful behaviors. I'd also add that it's important to encourage those who are struggling with being overweight.
I don't have a problem with peoole exposing their bodies. They're free to do what they want, everyone should love their body. Thats not normalising obesity.
I have an issue with people trying to convince others that it isn't unhealthy to be obese- thats normalising it. I have an issue with the magazines including obese models and calling it "Plus size", trying to infielunce others to stay as they are, and accept their weight.
I mean I don't support it. And I would say a lot of people in the fitness industry and doctors probably don't support this either.
Some women are just too lazy to put in the work or give up too easily. So rather than getting in shape they expect other people to like them for how they are.

Not sure if you know about it but there's this thing called mukbang which is basically someone recording themselves eating a large amounts of food.
And some of the people doing this video is incredibly obese. Which I think is a terrible thing to promote, cause you're pretty much saying it's ok to kill your health as long as you get paid.
Some people are able to eat huge amounts of food and stay in shape. Well that's because they exercise and don't eat junk everyday.
Body positive is saying that if someone is happy being that size, then THEY are body positive. I can't imagine having underlying health issues and still being happy with my current body. I would be positive in hard work and making changes. Shaming of any kind isn't ok but obesity does NOT have to be promoted.

People with anorexia get help because they're so obsessed with food. I think we should also offer fat people help. Because I believe that it can also work the other way. The one eats to comfort them selves, some stop eating. Bullying isn't the way to get people thin. Telling fat girls they're disgusting isn't going to make them thin like some seem to believe because people say it all the time.
I'm also a little overweight, I can lose weight but that means I have to think about everything I eat, that is going to make me count calories and fuck up my mental health. So I have decided to just keep doing what I'm doing. My weight has been stable for 2 years now and if it stays like this I think it should be fine.
Like if a man with 3 kids and a wife says "i dont care we are all broke and live off ramen and can't afford clothes hardly and im proud of it. Broke people who refuse to get a job are just as valid and awesome as anyone else. People need to accept the fact i dont want to work or support my family in anyway. Its actually a good thing to be this poor and its glamorous and i want to be able to teach your children its wonderful to refuse to work and be very poor".

I mean if someone has a belly sack that hangs down to or past their private area. their most likely obese. of if they have huge fat rolls on any part of their body really.
however their are those few who carry a bit of extra weight rather well. so they often like curvy or thicc in some regard.
One day, you'll come to understand that a) not everyone is genetically blessed and b) people can have medical conditions that aren't obvious to you and that c) both of these things contribute to obesity and that it's less important for these people to receive "encouragement" than it is for you to just shut the fuck up, go about your business and let them be.

Body confidence is important, but not if you are overweight. Losing weight, dieting and exercising is not folding to societal pressure it is about making you healthy.
Yea I can't stand the part of body positivity supporting love yourself if you're obese. I'd also like to say for those that have given up on weight-loss, it probably took you along time to become obese, why do you think it'll take you like 2 monthes to lose it all.
Body positivity was about supporting people with flaws on their body they couldn't remove. Missing limbs, scars, birthmarks, difformities... Exactly because they couldn't change it and had to live with it. It shouldn't concern fat people, since all they have is fat, which they can lose with more or less difficulty. In fact, those people stole body positivity to make it about them. And only fat women, because fat men can still be rejected and mocked, of course.
It's really sad to see women expose themselves even when they have beautiful bodies! It shows me they value attention more than modesty. Which is a bad character trait.

You should call out obesity. People need to take better care of their health. By showing their obese body, they are normalizing it and want support for their obesity.
What do you mean by "normalizing"? That obesity is sadly normal, especially in the US, is simply a fact. And one problem is society's totally ambivalent attitute towards it - on the one hand we've been glorifying thinness for decades, but at the same time we keep up a system that creates a lot of obesity.

It’s okay to be obese and be confident. I think many obese people are attractive but it is very unhealthy. It should not be promoted, anyone who becomes obese should start to lose weight for the sake of their health.

It is a problem, but we have only two ways to deal. Either softly convincing people to take care of themselves or harshly criticizing. Pretty sure former works better than latter.
The normalization of obesity is one of the lines on which modern feminism moves, just as the rest of feminism has the sole purpose of not taking any responsibility for one's actions and unloading one's responsibilities on others.
Body positivity IS supporting obesity. Most of the people who support it, either are fat, like fat people, or are so fat any hopes of making people accept you makes them feel better.
