I genuinely feel like people saying they look good for themselves are lying to everyone including themselves.

I really like your questions and your views. But on this one I have to differ with you. I think girls have a natural instinct to care much more about their looks than guys. It's nature. They are designed to attract men and therefore much more focused on their looks than men are.
So it gives them a natural mood boost when they doll themselves up and feel like they look good.
Do I think that a girl would be that way even if they were the only one on the planet?
Well, if you ignore all the other problems that they would have being the only one on the planet, and probably would be even more important to them than looking good, I think they probably would adorn themselves every day as a ritual. It's impounded in their DNA. It's a natural behavior.
So to look at it another way, yes I think they do it to attract men from nature's point of view, but... They also do it for themselves because it's a natural instinct that makes them feel good.
That's why they buy 10 times more clothes than men buy. That's why the cosmetics industry is a giant. That's why they do spa days, mani-pedis, etc.
You'd have to threaten to stick pins in my eyeballs to get me to do one of those things.
I hear you, and I believe most people would stay clean and shower, but as for doing makeup and doing their hair... I really don't think so.
I don't disagree with you on that. If they were the only one left on the planet I doubt they would be doing makeup and hair. But even in those dire circumstances I think they might do things to adorn their appearance to help them cope with the stress. I think that is natural behavior for women. And when highly stressed people often turn to natural behaviors to relieve it.
I believe if they do that, it would be once in a blue moon.
No one would ever because it gets rid of the whole point. People can say whatever they want but factually people only do this because of social world we live in.
Yes. It's important to always stay clean and not stink especially feeling itchy by taking care of yourself through the use of skincare, bathing and cleaning yourself with soap and shampoo, scrubs, it doesn't matter if I'm the only human left on the planet considering other humans are gone either due to extinction or whatever reason while you're still living alone, you need to survive.
After all, creating a cause of death for yourself due to an unhealthy lifestyle also makes it impossible to predict when you will die due to that lifestyle, so trying to hasten your own death with an unhealthy lifestyle just because you are the only human left on the planet is the most futile thing for a human being can do.
Staying clean is one thing. Dolling yourself up with makeup and doing up your hair is another.
Actually, cosmetic products are materials used on the outside of the body, including the skin, hair, and lips, or teeth, for the purpose of cleansing, scenting, and improving appearance. So, wearing lipstick that contains spf and vitamin E and other moisturizing ingredients if you don't have lip balm is also part of beautifying yourself by keeping yourself clean even though it is considered dolling yourself up with makeup.
Again, beautifying oneself is not only about using cosmetic products to create makeup, but using skincare products also aims to maintain skin health first and foremost, skin health will lead to one's own beauty. There are many meanings of beautifying oneself and there are many ways of taking care of oneself, one of which is by dolling yourself up with makeup and doing up your hair
To some extent probably well enough to maintain hygiene and all that. You still have to survive and stay healthy, you know? But no... no makeup and "dolled up" status, lol.
Agreed. Hygiene is still important. But the concept of looking good aesthetically suddenly goes out the window.
Your mom's a real one for that because let me tell ya... that's what most guys can agree on.
Maybe not, as there'd be no buxom blondes !!!111
@handsomelad70 the amount of times you've used the term "buxom blondes" on this app is disturbing man. It's getting a little old
So. Do you expect me to talk about fugly broads with my outstanding good looks?
Aww... poor @handsomelad70... @HawkPerception, it's just an OG expression. What do you want him to say? "Nice Boobs" like @spartan55? "Buxom Blondes" is at least a little more classy.
@handsomelad70 No, no "fugly"... You're fine. You do you, OG.
@spartan55 Keep your helmet on... 🙄 I figured with all that armor on you can take a hit or two.
@spartan55 I wouldn't mind clubbing a buxom blonde... before REALLY clubbing her !!!
@handsomelad70 Oh, yikes...
Old boys will be old boys, DishLady !!!1
Ok, @handsomelad70, but keep it clean, will you please?

If you can’t imagine someone wanting to be clean or “dolled up” for themself then that’s on you.
If I was the only person left on the planet, priorities and hobbies would change. I’d probably off myself 🤷♀️
Plenty of us shower and get all squeaky clean when we’re not going anywhere. When our interests are shopping, clothes, and make up a lot of get all dressed up and just stay in the house. My roommate used to think it was hilarious finding me all dressed up with sun glasses on in the house, but her interests were completely different than mine.
I'd maintain my basic hygiene obviously, no one wants to be dirty. But no, I wouldn't get all cute, why would I? I'm alone aren't I? 💁♀️
Exactly
I probably wouldn't get dolled up everyday. But I would totally do some fashion shows for myself. I would be wearing some fancy cute dresses. I'd have access to any clothing I've ever wanted to wear. Who wouldn't take advantage of that. It would be fun.
Yes in the past I would get dolled up to attract guys. But now I do it to feel good about myself. Getting attention does make you feel good so isn't that really doing it for yourself?
If you want to get philosophical about it, then you can say yes. But you can say that about anything in life. For example when you give to charity, you can say it makes you feel good doing it, so it's selfish. When you take care of your kids, it makes you feel good because it reflects your character as a parent, etc. You can literally change it up with any scenario to make the logic work.
But when people say they look good for themselves, it implies that others perception of them does affect them and I'd hate to say it, but that's just not true.
Yes, there are many papers and studies on this. We as humans are all inherently selfish. So, no good deed can be considered selfless. I'm with you on that logic.
But the perception of others affecting us has a bit more to it. Yes if I look good for myself because the attention can affect my mood for the better. But it won't do the opposite anymore. It's not going to make me down, insecure or question myself if I don't receive that attention. If that makes sense.
No.. I would still bathe but I would not own mirrors lol. I only be presentable for others not myself because I personally don't care about myself that much.
Ofc basic hygiene is a necessity to feel good. If I would care as much in getting a haircut or beard trimmed every week, looking fresh in general I doubt it.
I probably wouldn't go to the extent of getting "dolled up" anymore but I will surely continue to clean myself up as much as I can.
No I wouldn’t but I don’t care much now either. I almost never wear makeup and I always wear comfortable clothes.
Yes and no. It's looking at Myself
If we were talking apocalypse, probably not much considering low resources
Id say for women it would probably be a pony tail, updo or even just short hair
Being it's about survival and functionality
But little things are nice, simple blush or lipstick.
For both genders, fixing up hair and treating for acme if possible
I think I'd be more concerned about where everyone went... But I don't know after the mental breakdown you bet I'm going to Mecca and trying all the makeup and skin care.
I would, not every day but I dont look good every day now either. But I would and I would prop use more colorful make up in day to day so yeah I Def would
First of all how would we know if we were the only human left on Earth? I would be wondering where everyone went. I would start calling and looking around for people. Then I would go from there. I wouldn't be worried about getting dressed up.
Sure because if I WAS the only earthly women left on earth, I’m sure there is going to be some alien male species looking for a hot earthly.
I would shower daily and shave weekly.
Actually, yeah. If I'm given the honor of being the last man to ever live, you know I'm showing up lookin' sharp.
I really look good for myself, I don't wanna stink or dirty
Yes, to feel good about myself. I’m not gonna let myself go and turn into a caveman look
Id still maintain basic hygiene.
I would. I style myself for me though.
I see everyone’s misunderstand
Yes.
Probably not
