I had cataracts surgery when I was 55. I had special toric lenses put in. This removed my need for prescription glasses that I had worn since 1970. However, now, like all cataracts surgery patients, I must wear "readers" or "cheaters"; the cheap magnifying glasses you can buy anywhere so one can read up-close. But at least I can drive without glasses and I don't have to worry about losing or breaking a very expensive pair of prescription glasses.
