It would depend on the guest for one because it would change the tone of how I handle the particular situation.

In all honesty, if I noticed they were damaging it the moment they start walking around… I’d tell them kindly to take off their heels then ban stilettos from the house for all guests to follow.

@thi68 I would try to reach a compromise / try to explain if it were their floor and I was being ‘destructive’ without my knowledge & how I’d respond to the situation (which shouldn’t be a situation) all in calm, respectful, and orderly manner of course though if they persist I’d go to “I’ll buy special slippers you can wear once you make it through the door to make you feel comfortable & special” when that doesn’t work “sorry I don’t feel comfortable having you at my house”. That is all.

As a guest I would feel obligated to pay for any damages but as a host I would pay for a guests honest mistake.
