Sagging pants became popular in the 1990s after being adopted by hip-hop artists. The style has since become mainstream, but some communities have banned it. For example, some nightclubs and restaurants have banned sagging pants due to decorum concerns.

Sagging was said to be a symbol that the saggar was sexually available to other prisoners, or alternatively, already taken by another inmate. While several sources claim this to be true, others (like Snopes) tell us this is just a nasty rumor. Sagging pants may also be as simple as a rebellion, claims another source.

To be honest this is from way back when baggy pants was in style and the poor kids that couldn't afford them would go off the deep end with sagging their pants to make them look baggy. I don't even think baggy pants are really a thing anymore like back then but you still have these guys copying their elders that couldn't afford baggy pants.

The fucking pants were expensive though. My average JNCO jeans cost like $80... and if you remember what those are... you know I looked retarded. They're the people that couldn't afford them and sagging was their attempt to make Levi 501's or something look like JNCO jeans.

Thank god I'm just too fucking old for fashion anything. We all looked stupid as fuck and thought we looked cool.

A friend of ours is a retired correctional officer. He said guys in prison would wear their pants like that to signal that they are, "available." Somehow, morons outside of prison decided it looks good.

It started out as a prison thing with clothes that don’t fit and sag , and then it became a fad after they got out of prison. It defies all logic on why anyone would where pants like that or shorts
