Here are the caveats:

The gift certificate (at whatever amount) covers EVERYTHING as they bought it with the expectation you would get it ALL retouched.

The expense is no big deal and your family can easily afford it

You're healthy & no problems other than your skin is older & it's faded

You have plenty of spare time to do this as you're retired

You've NEVER mentioned retouching them. Not even once but you have said that you're happy & satisfied with what you've got

Your kids, grandkids, SO, whatever also have tattoos ranging from small, hlack single digits tattoos all the way to multiple full color large intricate pieces

Your not poor & could've done this yourself no problem

The ONLY parlor & ink master you trust is alive & still n business

Your SO signed off on the idea thinking it's a great idea

It depends on where the gift card is from.

I've gotten all my tattoos from the same person, and most people prefer their artist do the work. If the gift card is from some chain store, then thanks, but no thanks.

If they actually got it from my artist, then I'd discuss it with him, and see what we come up with together.

Yes. If you are spending a grand+ on realism you expect it to last. Fading is usually due to the wearer not keeping the art out of the sun, but legit artists stand by their art.
This is one of the questions I ask when searching for a new artist. I have had a couple move or retire. If an artist says there is no fee you know they care more about their art than profit so you will get a good tattoo. They will rail you about keeping out of the sun too. All good signs.

If I did have any tattoos, maybe I would use the money for laser to get them removed instead of touching them up since they probably would look pretty bad if I was at that age and had gotten them when young, but luckily I’ve never gotten any tattoos
