What constitutes a “pretty”/“handsome” face?

Some of us are often been told we're "pretty" or "beautiful" by SOME folks and then criticized for looking “too different” by others…

in my opinion, culturally/geographically the standard of what’s pretty or beautiful (for gals) and what’s handsome (for guys) is clearly subjective. So I’ll put it to the group:

What constitutes a “pretty”/“handsome” face?

The majority of humans find specific physical traits to be attractive. In other words, while physical attraction may be subjective, it's still the majority who agree on certain features, making those universal traits to be desired.

The majority of people prefer facial symmetry, clear skin, certain waist-to-hip ratios. The majority of people prefer people who are not obese.

Mouth / Lips
Attractive:

In Women: Full, well-defined lips with a clear vermilion border. A high lip-to-chin ratio (upper lip roughly 1/3 to 1/2 the height of the lower facial third) is often preferred.

Honest to God I have no idea. My wife is the hottest thing on the planet to me. But that's the rub "to me".. And I don't care what someone else would rate her.

On that same token I have been told that I am plain at best my entire life, but my wife says I'm handsome. How in hell she sees that in me I have no idea, but I'm also not one to question it cause the only person in this universe who's opinion matters to me is hers.

To a large extent, facial attractiveness can be defined mathematically. There's symmetry, as if how closely the left side of your face matches the right side of your face. There's also something called the "golden ratio," I think, and how closely your face adheres to this ratio is supposed to say a lot about how attractive you are.

There isn't anything besides general guidelines that is instinctual (at least to me anyways). But, definitely for me, it's the person themselves that comes through the face to make them beautiful/handsome to me.

Symmetry seems to be the overriding factor in most people's evaluation of attractiveness, according to 'them', whoever 'they' are. Who are 'they', anyway, is what I'd like to know? Lol. Cheers! 😉
