Why do you dress up?

personally im all about comfort, but i see people on the streets pay a lot of attention to how they come off, why? so i know about reasons but wanna know yours

It's still a novelty for me and still sorta required professionally in the field I'm in. I went from being a kid in high school straight into military University and from there into a 15 year career as an Army officer. I had hardly ever worn a suit and tie outside of weddings and funerals until I was about 35. I had been wearing jeans and cowboy boots or a uniform my entire life to that point.

Then I fell into the world of Fortune 100 finance at the corporate level then the New York financial services world of Investment Banking, Private Equity, and Hedge Funds. It was culture shock for me. I was lost, LOL. What suit? What shoes? What shirt? What tie? I gave myself a crash course in dressing like an adult. And it's still sort of a novelty for me to wear big boy clothes. 🤣 Plus it's pretty much expected where I hang our professionally. But it spills over into my casual clothes too.

So yeah, I get comments all the time...

Well dressed.
Always so put together.
Sharp.

The thing that really makes me stand out though is that the average guy 35 and older is usually dressed like he's hanging onto high school or the frat house in college. Women notice me. It starts a lot of conversations.

COMMAND THE ROOM: ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO BUSINESS, I'm not just talking about business deals, if you need to do something simple at the bank, if you need to sign a a car lease, a rental agreement, I always try to dress a step up. I'm currently in South America and I do it for all my appointments with immigration. Some people are literally showing up in pajamas, and I'm showing up in almost a complete suit. You will command the room if you dress a little better. I did it in the past to close business deals, now I'm doing it to see on my immigration deal.

Occasionally, I dress up for attention. Usually, I dress up because that is appropriate for the situation. Most of the time, it is a bit of both.

It gives me confidence knowing I'm looking sharp. And it also represents my personality. How you dress is who you are. I prefer casual, boho, and classy looks and tend to dress that way.

The halo effect has proven over and over again people judge others appearances whether they deny it or not. If you can enhance their initial assumptions about you, why not put in the little effort it takes in an outfit and grooming yourself a bit?

So here it's pretty much always hot , so 90 % of the time I look like I've been running or in the gym , but for business events , or say special functions , or special nights out you are expected to dress up..

And I enjoy that because these are rare occasions.

I don't not really. Even my more formal/nicer wear is still more or less casual/semi casual.

But outside of work I always dress in a way that looks presentable and put together but also you don't really need a suit to dress up. I can and often dress up merely by utilizing colours and things like tucking in my shirt using boots, belts, jackets n hats.

It shows both self-respect and respect for others not to look like a slob that just rolled out of the bed. Going shopping in your pyjamas is an American thing, don't do that here.

I don't most the time. But when i do it's because it's showing respect to the people or the occasion. Looking good isn't about money as some think. You can get a decent suit at a thrift store. Half of it is the the suit the other half is you, how you carry yourself. It's pointless to wear an Armani suit if you behave like a buffoon
