Trending & News Here is what bathing suits from the past looked like and what they look like now. Would you consider today's suits as going backwards, and not forwards?

Back in the day, bathing suits were simple. A guy wore shorts. A lady wore something that actually covered stuff. My grandpa had a wool swimsuit. Wool! It weighed forty pounds when wet. He said it built character. I tried to bring back wool swimsuits last month. Made one out of my old sweater. Jumped in a pool and sank straight to the bottom like a depressed rock. Had to be rescued by a lifeguard who laughed so hard she dropped her whistle in my mouth. Modern suits? They’re all about “quick-dry” and “UV protection” and “recycled ocean plastic.” That’s not progress. That’s just guilt in fabric form.
Real progress would be a bathing suit that doubles as a flotation device and a snack holder. I designed one last week. Duct-taped two pool noodles to a pair of boxers and glued a granola bar to the chest. Wore it to a public pool. Security escorted me out. So yeah, backwards. We peaked when people just swam naked and didn’t care. But try that now? You get a badge and a court date. I know from experience. Don’t ask.
Bathing suits in years past were meant for swimming. A woman could safely and comfortably swim in the.
In today's world, the bathing suits shown would never survive a dip in the water, let alone swimming. Maybe we should start calling them beach suits.
I'd like to see her go down a water slide at a water park. Wonder how much would stay on? 😂🤣
Ouch that'd be a wedgie
So there’s this fascinating concept called The Hemline Index that is relevant to your question. The Hemline Index is a kind of gauge to see how a society is doing both in terms of personal values as well as financially by measuring the length of skirt hemlines. The higher the hemline, the better a society is doing financially, and the more open to new ideas that same society is. The lower the hemline, the higher likelihood of a national financial crisis, and the more conservative that society is. The reason for this is because conservative ideas, including the ones that shame women for not dressing modestly like a good, god-fearing puritan girl ought to, seem “safer” in comparison to the new ideas and social progress that can be made during times of financial prosperity because you can’t spend money like that during a financial crisis so you stop thinking about those things. Just a little fun fact for you.
Financial success and trying new ideas isn't what makes people happy. Also a theory debunked by the very fact that people on the 1800's were relatively much happier then they'd ever been. People on 1930's Nazi Germany were economically successful and happy before the war started yet that was a regime that promoted modesty. For me making women dress modestly would be about destroying the beauty, modeling & celebrity culture that convince women they must be gross and slutty to appeal to men.
Being a pagan I am hardly going to want this because I want women to fear an Israeli sky tyrant. What matters to me is vitality and passing on our genetics.
@wodens_apprentice With all due respect, if Germans had been happy and successful in the 1930s the Second World War would never have started. Maybe learn some actual history before you start pontificating?
@AngryCarl3 WW2 wasn't started by any side. The Polish had an aggressive stance towards the Germans even before the Nazis took control.
The Prussian lands were annexed into Polish territory whilst the Germans didn't have an military to defend themselves with during the 1920's.
Once German nationalists came to power, the Polish government bragged that they were going to be the front line against Germany.
When National Socialists came to power, before any "holocaust" there was an international boycott from Jews across the world, which was a attempt to financially cripple Germany.
Lastly you also had the warhark Churchill. Whilst it was under Chamberlain the war was declared in defence of Polish from Germany taking back their territory, but Chamberlain wasn't much of a warhawk and had more peaceful disposition against Germany.
Churchill however was a warhawk who was angry that Germany was becoming powerful again because he wanted their national spirit crushed after WW2. Churchill basically was a nobody with no job being funded to form his own think-tank. He admitted he hated the Germans, not necessarily Nazism.
Germans were very happy during the 1930's as they were no longer living in Weimar Germany. Why don't you study how gross, degenerate and economically messed up Weimar Germany was if you want to understand why people voted for Hitler and we're happy living under a patriotic totalitarian society.
@Wodens_Apprentice I'd be good with a sky tyrant ( which he isn't) than any leader here on earth, especially Tyrant Turd Trump.
@nodecision He is a tyrant. He is jealous of other Gods. He demands worship for himself alone. He is the supreme head of everything & will neglect you and leave you to unspeakable afterlife horrors because it's in humanitys nature to defy him (original sin).
The old testament god is quite different to how he is preached to have been by Jesus and is absolutely a ruthless tyrant who seeks to center everything in the cosmos towards himself.
The Israeli Sky-Father you believe in is likely a Christian version of the ancient European sky father, with his winged angels with halos, beliefs centered around free will, natural order and humility. Along with Saints filling in the role of a pantheon of deities.
@nodecision
Exodus 34:14 "You shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God."
Jealousy as a god huh? That reminds me of how Jeffrey Epstein exclusively abused white girls and tried to establish a Judeo-White clone. And how his victims claimed he thought whites were superior. This is despite the fact Epstein is found in yep seperste images. One wearing a IDF shirt and the other wearing a Socialist hat.
Both Socialists and Zionists do not generally get along, but have a disproportionate representation of the ethnic group Epstein himself was a part of.
@Wodens_Apprentice If you created everything, wouldn't you be jealous if some idol was stealing your thunder?
@nodecision
Well of it's just an idol then the idol isn't stealing shit because it's not real.
If that's what you think then you believe pagan Gods but you just want some kinda Israeli god supremacy.
Anyway I don't think a universal God like the Abrahamic one should be jealous as that'd make him a hypocrite for casting the devil into hell over his pride.
I would never wear number 3 or 4. That's way beyond revealing.
Number 2 is outdated. Number 1 is outdated even for my grandmother's taste.

They have definitely got smaller with time
I’d say it depends what you mean by “progress.”
If progress means more options and freedom, then modern swimwear has clearly moved forward. But if progress means practical clothing made for actual swimming, then some modern designs do seem to have gone backwards. A swimsuit should still function as swimwear, not just be a beach photo outfit.
however what I always found interesting is how much context changes people’s reaction. A bikini and underwear can cover almost the same amount of skin, but people treat them very differently because one is socially coded as public swimwear and the other is coded as private clothing. So it’s not really just about how much is covered. It’s about setting, intention, and social meaning.
I have worn something maybe not quite as extreme as the last pic but not far off, actually a couple of times and had a couple of weird experiences. One weird experience was, I wore that on the beach near the hotel where my boyfriend was staying for a work conference, and I guess I should have thought about this, but, his boss's boss happened to walk past and I was kind of trapped smiling and standing there in a thong for 20 minutes while they talked. The other weird experience was a little boy was staring and commenting and I could tell it made his mom uncomfortable. So I think twice now before wearing anything like that. Having said that, my personal favorite of those pics is the second one, you can still see their bodies but it's modest enough to never be a problem. JMO!
The last two pictures are more naked than if they wore nothing. I don't see how those can be considered bathing suits.
Does make you wonder what they were thinking.
There have been some more options for those women who want to cover more as do to age or child birth things have changed and would rather cover up or based on up bringing and body size feel better. Sun burn awareness and a polite way of a swim cover and hat as well.
Not sure how to think of fashion in relation to physics.
That said, beach customs I've seen, in practice, features a mix of bikinis, monokinis and, sometimes, even more coverage than a monokini.
Nothing wrong.
The wrapping changes, but the goods remain the same.
Good point.
We are at the stage where they are pointless

cool!
@nodecision I wear a bikini, 👙 I haven’t gone shopping yet for a new one
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay none taken 💕💯
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay it’s only supposed to cover my nipples
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay it’s been over a year or more
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay I’m going to buy another one soon
@_jenny_ Will it be hard to find a top that can hold you in place?
Am I allowed to ask what size bra you wear? Or is that too personal?
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay Most of the time I go to a Nudist Beach so I don’t really need a bikini 👙
@_jenny_ Are nudist beaches real?
What country do you live in?
Why do you prefer nude beaches?
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay yes they are real and there are Numerous nude beaches. Some of the Beaches don’t allow nudity but if you go far enough away from the life guard you can still take off your top and if anyone sees you, you’ll have plenty of time to go in the water or put your clothes on because you can see the police from a distance
@_jenny_ Not trying to be mean or anything, but it sounds like you have a public nudity kink.
Is it a sexual thing for you?
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay Not a sexual thing and I live in the USA 🇺🇸
@_jenny_ What is it then? Like a sense of freedom? You enjoy having guys stare at you? Something else?
You can chat me if you feel like it. No pressure. Or if you still don't want to, it's fine.
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay I once lived in a Nudist Community and yes it felt wonderful not having to wear clothes and I am not ashamed of my body
@_jenny_ Is it fun seeing guys stare at you when you're nude?
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay Ask @Paige2006 she grew up in a nudist community with her brother and parents. She can explain it much better than me
@_jenny_ Sorry if I was asking too many questions.
@EveryDayIsPretzelDay yes, I have to do some chores and then get ready for work so I’ll talk with you another time, but not today
Yes. Some shorts and a shirt is fine.
Women are basically almost naked when they go to the beach now.
Today's bikini's are covering just 1%, just nipples/areolas and vagina only, reat is naked and open for everyone to see/stare and enjoy lol 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
I'm sure designs like this are coming back sooner rather than later. It's probably going to be a huge market soon.
Errr... those are bikinis' - the bathing suit is still pretty much the same as always.
With later two, they should just be naked. The clothed parts just look like silly tokenism.
i mean you could argue they are going "forewards". depending on how you view the trend of "revealing more of ones body".
Backwards isn't the right way to put it but worse in styling yes. Of course this is just my opinion
Not necessarily. Depends on what current bathing suits you focus on
Check out Left on Friday.
I would say their suit designs are going forward
A tasteful one-piece swimsuit is the best. Leaves something to the imagination, hugs the curves. Best of both worlds.
I've always been a firm believer that bare skin is the best swimsuit. Nature made!
For sure they are inclined to bad taste these daysz, bathing suits from 2nd picture seem nicest
I be too afraid my boobs will fall out or my nipples will try wearing something that small.
The last two pics are disturbing 😄🤭
You mean "revealing". 👍🏼
Not in a good way tho 😄
The second-to-last is actually a normal sight on our beaches… lots of wrong-sized bikinis. 🤔
The last one is ridiculous, of course.
@DryGermanGuy I agree 😄
No, not backwards. They are going insane
Today's bikinis are like walking 95% naked!
Climate Change 🤣
Yea they seem to get better in time for sure 😂
Why not just go naked?
Seriously. Naked shows poise, self-confidence, boldness and a generally I don't give a $%^&, I'm just here to have fun.
Those outfits show you are yet another skank.
Who? Me or the girls in the pics? I certainly don't dress like that at the beach. 😯
@nodecision Women in the pics. Sorry for the accidental confusing offence!!!
😁
I'll agree with that. Some girls do anything for attention. Kind of pathetic.
That's right even nudity had more taste then slut-wear.
well... that last one is unsightly
For the last babe, no.
