Do men still wear real wristwatches instead of Apple Watches out of respect for time?

Respect for time? No. Because a nice analog watch is a fashion accessory that men and women both notice readily and read all sorts of things into? Yes.

As for the Apple Watch or smart watches in general, I think they're a joke. Expensive. Low battery life. Redundant if you have a phone. And too tiny for any real information.

A watch for me is just a little polishing touch on my overall style. They're pretty much redundant today. My car has 3 clocks. My phone has a clock. My iPad has a clock. My laptop has a clock. Everyone around me has a phone with a clock. The danger of me not knowing what time it is is pretty much zero.

But an expensive looking watch is interesting and a potential conversation starter. I have about 8 dress watches and a bunch of leather and silicone bands that I can swap out for tons of different looks.

If I'm going casual i may throw on this ugly monstrosity I use in the field and for runs or backpacking. It's a tool not a fashion statement. But it's unusual and starts conversations. It can read time, compass heading, barometric pressure (weather), altitude, and ambient temperature. And it will take a beating. Not something I need for a night out but something that's fun to tell people about when they ask.

I really like your opinion and I get what your saying and I think most people wear a watch as an accessory or fashion statement or perhaps a sign of wealth, but every once in a while and I suppose it’s rare to see a man looking at his watch I guess for me he respects time and find that appealing.

Men (and women) still wear real wristwatches, but it’s not usually “out of respect for time” in some deep, philosophical way. It’s more about style, personality, tradition, and sometimes status.

A mechanical or classic watch feels like jewelry and craftsmanship. An Apple Watch is more of a gadget. Both tell time, but they scratch totally different itches.

I occasionally wear a wristwatch. It has nothing to do with time. It was a gift from my wife. When we go out together, I wear the watch she gave me.

My husband wears a normal wrist watch because it looks nicer and is much smaller than a smart watch. Plus you don't have to charge it or anything.
