People seem to love funny people. Why? Because they make their day! Laughing makes you forget your troubles for a while and makes you live in that moment. Laughter and comedy play larger roles in our lives than most people realize or would like to admit. Funny people are easier to like because they make us happy by making us laugh. How can you not like someone who makes you happy?

Am I alone to not care about Harry Potter or Lord of the rings? I mean, they were nice movies, but I don't try to learn everything about them. I much prefer learning stuff that have a use.

Not the movies. The movie were so so...
The books. The books were really popular back then. I remember how in school we'd read the books instead of concentrating in class when the teacher wasn't looking.

I just never was into those books... I DID read Lord of the rings though !

Haha Well, I lived for those books back then, like @Glue-Sniffer said: sneaking them into classrooms and reading them. They were a revelation. =)
We were in grade school back then - these books made us want to read. Incredible stuff.

It would kind of make me see we aren't the same generation - so probably don't have as much in common as I'd like. But since I already know you a bit from some really incisive comments and answers, if you showed that side of you in person - girls of your generation would not forget about you - if they're smart. =)
But probably would be bummed out you didn't get the reference. :(

you simply have a different taste in things.
I am 15 years old, so i read the books last year and I fell in love. I never heard people talk about the book, but I knew about Harry Potter and i sort of liked the films a loooong time ago that i forgot their plots. Then, i decided to give them a try. I loved how deep they were and how the more i reread them, the more I see hidden things and the more I think and come up with new theories, and the more they get interesting.

Yes, I think it's just that I am not THAT interested in the story. I've never really liked the movies (harry potter) either. I've seen the first 3 and never bothered with the others. Same with lotr. I've seen the first trilogy but have seen none of the new ones. I know they are not the books, but I just don't feel like reading them.

Well that's awfully boring, if the only thing you pay attention to is useful knowledge. I read the series and watched the movies because I found them to be entertaining to say the least. I grew up with the movies and read the series when I was 12. So its nostalgic. And HP has a strong moral theme to it.

So you don't care for movies books music etc?

Well, I prefer learning stuff about physics than learning quotes from the books. What is remembering quotes from the books useful for? I can enjoy a work of fiction. I have seen the Star Trek episodes, the Star Wars movies and all. No, I don't remember what Luke Skywalker said to his father in the 20th scene in the movie nor do I care. I enjoy the movie, I am not trying to learn it. What good is it going to do me to remember magic spells from Harty Potter? None !
