Cute/pretty is such a passive way to complement someone, and it's, as someone said, very generic. There's nothing special about being "cute" or "pretty". Hot/sexy is a much more pro-active way o complement someone, HOWEVER it can be really disrespectful if it's getting paired with a catcall from a guy you cross on the street. There's an appropriate place and time for those words, and an appropriate tone of voice and attitude to use them with. As many girls are saying, the ultimate appearance-related complement is "beautiful". It's just so much more from the heart than any of the words you mentioned.

neither nor actually... but if i have to choose it'd be hot/sexy just 'cause i hate those words "cute" and "pretty", it's like when there's nothing really beautiful about you and people are trying to find some relatively positive description so that they don't have to lie and say smth more expressive))
Cute and pretty because it just suits my personality a lot more. I'm not the hot and sexy type in the slightest lol and unfortunately you might been seen in a less than favorable light by men if you're seen as sexy rather than cute.
Cute/pretty because if someone says you're hot/sexy they could think you're slut. Plus, it's just who I am and I just don't feel hot or sexy
Hot and sexy does nothing to me. I like it when a woman compliments me on my personality and characteristics.
I love it when a woman says "you're really intelligent" or "you have a fantastic smile". These are the compliments that really make my day.
Most successful people are both. Seeming cute is more attractive in my eyes, however. The current values attributed to being "sexy", I don't find them appealing ~ most of them.

I hate being called cute. A puppy is cute, a child is cute, but i am a grown ass woman and i will judge you for using that word. Hot was Paris Hiltons' catch-phrase and therefore not appealing. Sexy is fine, but honestly all of those compliments just lack imagination.
I'd rather be called hot or sexy personally, because I feel like pretty and cute are pretty generic. If my boyfriend told me I was cute I'd probably just laugh, whereas if he called me sexy, I'd be on his lap ready to prove it to him within seconds.
Gorgeous and stunning are the words that really get me (in a good way). Cute and pretty dont seem too special to me and hot/sexy can be great depending on how and when you say it. Beautiful you can never really go wrong with though.
Beautiful, as a proper adult. I can dream it also conveys some sort of elegance and grace, a level above just pretty. Dolls are pretty, children are cute. Hot and sexy is like bedroom talk.
I don't like that word - cute, but I would prefer to be cute/pretty, I feel like then guys are more inclined to also get to know my personality while hot and sexy always translates to me like all they want to do is to sleep with me.
Beautiful, gorgeous, stunning, etc.
I like being called pretty/cute and sometimes hot/sexy, but if you really want to make me feel special to you, stray away from those ones just a bit.Gorgeous, or stunner, a beauty, cute, pretty, sexy sound more appropriate or classy depending on how its said.
Hot i feel like it means sexual onlycute/pretty, hot n sexy might sound bit vulgar if a guy calls u that randomly like ur a slut or somethin
I'd rather be called cute :) Hot/sexy isn't something that suits me haha :D
id rather be called pretty/beautiful. because it doesn't sound as intimate as sexy
I'd rather be called cute. It means I probably made a funny.
Women compliment men? Lol, jk
