How to hint to a guy that you like him?

I really like this guy and I'm pretty sure that he likes me but he's super shy and we don't really know each other very well. I want to hint that I like him because I've liked him for a really long time and it's driving me crazy so I just want to get it out there but I don't want my whole school to know about it. I want it to be that only he knows because I'm really scared of rejection and I don't want the whole school to be gossiping about me just like they do with everyone. Anyone have any advice?
