Reached out to a girl on Linkedin that I met... Should I ask for her number?

We were on the train and she kept looking at me. So I got off with her and started talking to her, she was in a hurry to catch her bus, so I gave her my card. Didn't hear from her.

I reached out to her on Linkedin since we had a mutual friend and wrote it was good to meet her. She replied by adding me and wrote that it was great to meet me and she's glad I found her on there.

Now I can't tell if she's being polite or not. I am thinking about asking for her number and then asking her out.

Thoughts?

Go slow with her for a little bit until you feel her out that she even wants to associate with you More on Linedin...
If it appears she is Into you with some signs of chemistry, then by all means ask her for 'Her number' and just suggest maybe hanging out sometime, would she be into doing this? This way you would be Certain of 'Getting her number' right then and there, if you get my drift.

Well... Linked In is meant for professional collaborations. Since you are interested in her in other ways, LinkedIn would not be such a good idea. Try to get hold of her email id, Facebook profile or something else which can be used for personal purposes. In the worst case, ask her for her number saying you want to collaborate professional with her, and later you can give some excuse.

Yeah, any kind of expression of romantic interest on a professional networking site such as Linked In is a bit inappropriate. I would personally never do that, and also wouldn't really think too highly of someone who tried to do that to me on LinkedIn.

I used Linkedin because we had a mutual contact. It was easier for me to say "I randomly noticed you know xxxxx" rather than I creeped her.

Does what she wrote plan any importance? "Thanks for finding me" and "great to meet you".

Well... you could try this. Go through her profile, and then ask her number on the pretext of collaborating with her professionally. After a few days, you can let her know that the plan didn't work out so you had to drop it. I wouldn't recommend this approach, but if you want to stick with LinkedIn, this is the best possible way.
And I do suppose she was only being polite with her response, at least for now.

You can ask her for her private contact info (being phone, email or whatever), if she does give it to you, then ask her if she wants to get a cop of coffee with you and go from there.
