Earlier I sent my female friend/crush a smile face with a big smile in my response to her happy face. But what faces are flirting? I know a winky face is which I haven't used. For example, right now I feel like sending her a heart eyes face in a Facebook message. Big or small.

I'd probably consider heart eyes flirting when with the right person. The wink and wink with kiss are obvious flirting emoticons. And of course sending straight up hearts. I feel that most of the smiley faces you can play it safe with. The two smiley faces that are blushing (their cheeks are slightly colored lol) are kind of in between. They could be interpreted as flirty/cute but also are not too obvious. I use them a lot.

If she is totally oblivious to you liking her then the heart eyes might not be. I get them from my friends on occasion (but usually not kisses or winks unless they're trying to be a tease about someone else). But if she has a feeling you like her then yes the heart eyes would be flirting.

LOL emoticons are just a way to help convey your emotions more accurately which is often difficult while texting. If I send a smiley face to my mum it's not strange, I'm just happy. Also if someone is texting me with no emoticons I'm more likely not to use them either and vice versa.
