What will prevent a guy from hitting on you?

I work at a fast food place, and every day I work at least 2 guys hit on me :( I am committed to my boyfriend, no matter what, but I am wondering. Are there any ways to prevent a guy from hitting on you?

The downside is I am required to be nice to them (because they are customers) unless they harass me. I've tried telling them that I have a boyfriend or that I'm taken, but they don't care. I even have repeat customers that try getting my number etc.

Girls, any ideas on how to prevent this?

Guys, what are some things that a girl does or says that make you not hit on her?

As an experiment for the next week, because my boyfriend will be out of town and I have nothing better to do. I will try the different ideas that people give me, at work, and let you guys know what works and doesn't :)

You have a problem most women would like to have!

If you get hit on, just tell them you have a boyfriend.

You shouldn't change your personality because you're pretty.

In fact that's one of my pet peeves; girls who act bitchy just to not get hit on.

A pretty girl gets ugly really fast if she has a bad attitude.

Let's face it, you're going to get hit on no matter what. Keep a good smile, make friendly eye contact and be authentically grateful for their attention. Keep yourself at ease about the situation and know in advance this is how life is for you. Eventually you'll find the right combination of things to say that work for you.

I can see how this would make you uncomfortable. Please don't be rude or snarky. Maybe wearing a promise ring would ward off some of the guys and you could wear it only to work if it's allowed to wear certain jewelery.

Gotta agree with that, however, I've come across some who still ask "would your boyfriend mind sharing?" or "it doesn't matter, what he doesn't know won't hurt him"

If a guy keeps harassing people and won't take no for an answer it's OK to be rude to him. Technically, they're being rude to her.

I'd say most guys get the hint if you say you're unavailable as long as you are firm and direct. Like someone else said, if you act wishy-washy then it leaves a tinge of doubt and they may keep prodding. But if she's getting hit on 2-3 times a day, then she's going to have good practice deflecting come-ons. Harassment is another topic entirely, and I don't get the feeling from the question that that was her problem...

Point taken. I can understand her dilemma if the same guys are repeatedly hitting on her. I guess some guys (not me) just won't take no for an answer. If it's at work when this happens, I recommend discussing this in advance with her supervisor or boss and tell him/her to be available for back-up should these persistent guys not leave her alone. It's in the interest of the business to provide a safe and comfortable working environment. A quick interception by the boss should be company protocol.

No, women don't want this problem. Women don't need to keep a good smile for anyone. The best self care is being committed to one person who is right for you if that is what feels right for you, and keeping people from wasting your time (such as hitting on you) when you do not want them to. The best way I have found is acting bored, with a bad attitude but not towards them (avoid triggering any crazies). Any friendliness is going to be interpreted as flirting. A ring and talking about boyfriend, husband and kids also can help.

What is wrong with being attractive and having guys interested in you? I'm sure it is probably a pain in the neck sometimes, but you shouldn't stop living your life the way you want to because of it. I would just be very direct and tell them no, not interested. Don't smile at them or joke around with them because that gives them a mixed signal. If you tell them you can't because you have a boyfriend that doesn't tell them no. That tells them you are interested in them there just happens to be something in the way that could disappear at any time. Just be straight with them. I don't know if that will help or not, but that is the training I've had over my life.

You are asking what is wrong with it? If you have to ask this, then you have a lot to learn about women. Just because she is being polite due to her job does not give men the right to hit on her all day. I can tell you are a poser by your photo. Grow up

When I go out to the clubs, I tell them I'm a lesbian. That shuts them up and they usually don't come back around. lol. But since this from a work, just don't keep eye contacts with them. When they ask you something, don't carry on a conversation and keep a straight face. Keep your answers short to 'yes' and 'no' and ask them if they need anything else. Take the money and move on with the next customer. If there isn't anyone in the line, walk away and help out in the back or 'act' like you're busy with something else.

But if a guy has already hit on you, after telling him you're not interested and you have a man, he is disrespecting you and your relationship. You sound like one of those guys who would say "A boyfriend only makes it harder to score" or something like that. But I guess the only thing she should do is wear a promise ring and hope that will ward the guys off! Ha!

I wouldn't advice you to pretend or do things that could lead to any misunderstandings with your boyfriend/ family. I would say at first just act professional. Make sure your answers are not open ended, so they don't get an opportunity to banter with you. Remember that you are there to do your work and don't let such guys ruin your reputation at work.

I haven't read the other answers but it seems like to some guys, the lesbian story just becomes a challenge. They want to think that they could make a lesbian go straight. After all why would a woman want another woman when she could have a man? Poor girl is just misguided and hasn't met a real man before.

Wear an engagement ring but only at work because if your friends or family members see this they'll go berserk. If the men don't notice it right away then point it out to them that you are currently engaged. Also don't wear makeup or try to look your best, men are visual beings so if you take away our imagination then we pass you off as just another person. Having lots of acne helps keep the men away.

In that case give him a heads up before you do something like wearing an engagement ring. If he asks why then say that your heart belongs to only him and no one else and that you will be wearing the engagement ring to scare off the other guys that are constantly hitting on you. If your boyfriend works with you then sneak in a few kisses on the lips in front of the customers but never in front of your boss.

Don't act bitchy! That's a silly thing to do, because chances are you'll never see them again, why make a bad impression? I personally would make a joke to them.
