Like red's a big big deal
If someone's being a nice friend as in close friends crush then the pink ones
If someone's being a nice girl friend then the purple/yellow ones
If someone's being a nice guy friend then the green or blue ones

I send purple hearts to my fiancé because it's his favourite colour and he sends me blue ones because it's my favourite colour. The colour doesn't really matter though
