Americans rejected the monarchy in 1789. It seems to be a horribly useless and expensive tradition.
An interesting question to ask. I expect most Americans to immediately equate it to tyranny out of auto response.
The English had revolutions from 1640AD to 1834AD.
By 1689, after the Glorious Revolution, monarchical absolutism was mostly dead BUT much maligned George III still tried to impose a Prime Minister on Parliament. His action was validated by an election in 1784 which Pitt the younger won. However William IV tried to do the same in 1834 but elections did not give his pick a majority.
At that point the last tyrannical powers of the British Monarchy died. I doubt American's will appreciate this. Several have told me Charles III has enormous power when he has none.
As a Commonwealth citizen I find Presidential systems too tyrannical for my taste. I value the 'trusted umpire' that the constitutional monarchy gives us. We can have an election at anytime it is needful rather than on some arbitrary date. No dead duck gov'ts.
I have enormous respect and admiration for Victor Hanson but even he doesn't get it. So I don't expect average Americans to understand the subtleties of constitutional monarchy.
It seems that to say the English had series of revolutions was highly offensive to community standards so I was forced to cut it up to find said offensive words
Charles X, King of France, is reported to have said On the subject of the constitutional monarchy
‘I would rather saw wood than reign in the manner of the King of England.’
I hate them.
No good comes from monarchies.
Ask Louis XVI about them... when you find his head and reattach it to his body.
I think it's stupid that any one ruler should stay in power for more than about 6 to 8 years. It's totalitarianism and it's basically just plain evil.
I think that we just don't need or want any kings, and I think that our elections just prove this. Last time we had to prove this, it was a lot more violent, with the American Revolution. Fortunately, this time, that was not required.
We don’t like circuses We don’t believe in that we are a Christian nation and we think it’s simple minded cartoons that actually think that they’re a king
basing your leadership on the principle of birthright is not the American way.
Antiquated. I mean most of them are just for show anyways these days. England has a Monarchy, but they have no political power.
If we liked a monarchy the Boston Tea Party would have never happened.
It's a complete shit show. No different than watching the Kardashians
Not really a fan of monarchy, defined as one person role. I prefer aristocracy or democracy.
Only thing they deserve is death. Fuck tyrants.
I support it. I wish they had more power
I think it's ridiculous
We told you in 1776
monarchy are sex maniacs.
