Why does he want me all of the sudden?

There's this guy. Everyone kinda noticed he liked me before, but he never did anything about it. Ever since I started not to feel for him that much and ever since I started to go out more without him, he started to be a lot more interested in me. In fact, he started calling me some nicknames that 'sing me off as his property', which is completely wrong since he never said how he felt about me or shown it.

So, what I'm asking is what is he doing?

I have a guy friend that is doing that to me too and when he all of a sudden started getting all cutesy and doing the nickname stuff, I was like "You never acted like this before with me." and he said "I don't know what I was thinking before, I guess I just changed" and he did the whole "it was me, not you" thing. He talks about me being his girlfriend but I'm not biting. Even though he says that stuff to me I can't help but get the feeling that some other chick knocked him back and I'm just second place because he's desperate or something.
