Should men compliment women?

So I was having a conversation today with a guy friend of mine. He said men should absolutely never, under any circumstances, compliment a woman. No telling her she's beautiful. Nothing.

Now I know going overboard can seem a little weird and insincere, but what's your opinion? I don't see a problem with the occasional compliment.

haha No offense but your friend's a dumba**. If a guy pays me no compliments at all I assume he's not interested and then I automatically and permanently move him into 'friend zone' and there's really no going out of that sweetie. The thing is not to drown her in compliments for two main reasons

a) Too many compliments come off as un-sincere and then you seem like those guys who use words without meaning them... aka.. player.

b) She may believe you and no longer see you as intriguing or a challenge; you always have to leave a little for her to work for huh?

Honestly; if you admire something about someone- anyone, I believe you should feel free to tell them and more than that, I think it's a nice thing to do whether you're romantically interested in them or not. You're just giving them credit where you believe it's due. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't make overly false statements constantly as to her incomparable, unremarkable intoxicating blah blah blah beauty, Even if you think she's pretty, it can get tiring.

More than that, your friend is just probably trying the player approach. My brother believes in it too. Apparently to bring the girl's self confidence down so low that she'll do anything for you affection and approval and then you've 'got her', but seriously? Do you want a girl like that? (because it is only certain types of girls who fall for that bull). Who's whole self worth is so contingent on your opinion? I wouldn't find that attractive in a man AT ALL, and I can't imagine a man finding it attractive in a woman.

Right, the player approach. Since all guys love women who have been so emotionally beaten they sit in a pool of their own shattered dreams and ruined sense of self-worth on the couch at the party, avoiding everyone.

Unfortunately some do; And I never said all. I should know; My closest friends are guys. Assholes really, especially when they want something from a girl. But the girls honestly should know better so I can't dredge up too much sympathy. There's more than one possible reaction to their emotional insecurity; Others go out of their way to be accepted by whoever doesn't think they're good enough and eventually feel they might not deserve better. Sad and maybe pathetic but true.

Your friend seems to have an abysmal concept of reality -- or you misunderstood what he was saying, the context, or SOMEthing.

-- Don't get overly complimentary with women at work. There are many conflict-of-interest clauses you don't want to touch on.

-- Don't get too pleasant with married women or you'll ultimately become a "home wrecker."

-- If you're interested in a nice, available girl and there are no underlying circumstances to prevent you from approaching her, why the heck WOULDN'T you compliment her?

that's a little strange... women love compliments! whether they're trying to look good or not, every girl deserves to be told she's beautiful. don't over do it, though, and say things that might end up seeming like pick-up lines.

Never, ever, ever under any circumstance tell a woman she's beautifull. She knows what you want then. Then she knows she's won your heart and run off with some other dude who won't pay her compliments. Women love the chase, make them WANT your compliments, not the other way around.

Remember; what women really want is not what they say they want..

what iv learned from taking advice from my friends about girls is dont. What they do, they do. What you do, you do. Unless your both fist pumping guidos I guarantee you both have completely different ways of going about girls.

women love compliments! its nice to know the effort is noticed and appreciated, I'm with mizbee93, guys that don't compliment get moved to the friend zone or if they try and criticise are labelled arses.

It's nice to be notice for something. I compliment men when they have a quality or action that I appreciate.
