Asked out my crush but he didn’t say yes or no?

I like this guy at work we’re pretty cool with each other so I decided to ask him if he wanted to hang out not something I would normally do actually this was the first time I ever asked someone out so I was nervous as hell but anyways he didn’t say yes or no

All he said was there isn’t anything to do around here which there really isn’t unless you like to go out to the club and neither of us like that
he asked me well what do you wanna do
(why would he ask me that?) I told him doesn’t really matter and he said all we could do is go out to eat or go to the movies and that is expensive and I laughed and said yea that’s true

his friends say he is a homebody he doesn’t really go out much unless they make him go out so I don't know if that might be a reason why

All I wanna know is why didn’t he give a direct yes or no answer

Asking someone if they want to hang out is kind of vague.. You can't always rely on the other person to think you are pursuing them romantically and asking them out vs a hanging out was just friends.

Lets say he got what you meant though.. In that case given on what you told us about him.. That he's a homebody. He's probably not experienced with women/shy and couldn't really directly answer it. Or he isn't ready or interested
