Is there any difference between a regular hug (facing each other) and a hug from behind?

A hug from the front to me would be more intimate, If you think about it you are both facing one another being rapped in each other arms. How more intimate can a hug be, is like two people come as one, as friends.

But as from behind, while it is nice to get those surprise attack, It is more for the reaction of the huggie. Where the person behind you is trying to be friendly.

I have to say I like giving and receiving both, but if it was someone I really care about. I would feel more of the bond with a face-to-face hug.

But well, yes I actually think there is a difference, normally I only get hugs from behind, from girls I'm either seeing, or have been seeing at some time...

But actually I've never hugged a friend from behind (when I was sober), I've only done that with a single girl I saw once :-)

Well, I would only want certain people to hug me from behind. I consider that more personal. I mean when you go to places where you are meeting some friends or family, you hug them from the front which is more acceptable as a greeting. Some people you even hug sideways. But if someone comes up and hugs me from behind, it better be someone either playing or a guy that I am interested/involved with. But that is just me.

Most def. A hug from behind is mainly reserved [ but not limited ] for couples. It's a more intimate way of hugging.

we are animals, and we have body language, though many of us don't realize it.

Animals to show caring and trust allow themselves to be put/placed into potentially dangerous positions to show trust and caring...

being hugged from behind is a very vulnerable position for the person being hugged. You "sense" its more intimate because you are displaying great trust when you allow it. ALSO, for many mammals(other than humans) that is a mating position...

A hug from behind is more intimate to me, I don't know why, but it is. I suppose because a hug from behind is "unnatural," as opposed to a frontal hug... in which when you really like someone, you're more prone to expand beyond the natural and do the unnatural. Makes sense?

yeah I love hugs from behind, girls don't really ever do it to me tho, but when I see an opportunity to hug my woman from behind I most definitely do so :) I like it because to me...it seems more intimate/romantic as where regular huge seem so perfunctory and protocol. although they can be nice sometimes, I don't think they on average convey as much emotion as a hug from behind.

A hug from behind has more of a fun, flirty and surprising aspect to it whereas the hug from the front tends to be a little more formal.

Its highly unlikely for someone to hug you from behind the first time they hug you, however its not true the other way around.

To me, a hug from behind is better coming from a boyfriend or someone who's about to be my boyfriend. There's something about it that just makes me feel protected. I love hugs from behind.

Me and my friends tend to hug from behind, but it's more of a surprise attack. Hugging intimately between friends for us would be really odd (mainly because we are all straight).
