What does being hugged from behind mean to you?

I've been friends with this guy for a while, but I've never had any physical contact with him, no high fives or hugs or anything like that. The other day he came up t me and just grabbed me in a big hug, then let me go because he'd hit my neck by mistake and I'd made a noise, and started hysterically laughing. Was he just being friendly? Does hugging a friend that's a girl from behind mean anything to you?

i'm tempted to say it was just friendly, but I wouldn't hug a girl unless she was a -close- friend or she started hugging first. I can imagine other guys being quicker to start hugging though.

also, if this happened at a party its more likely to be just some random friendliness.

I will say this though... guys must be like 99% of the time willing and interested in starting a relationship with a female friend if they are single... like, even if he was just being friendly, he's into you but just not blatantly flirting for some reason or other... maybe he's waiting to see which of his female friends shows the most interest in him, or hasn't decided which he likes the best. or shy or whatever. a lot of shy guys these days apparently.

I don't know, I feel weird when a guy (even a boyfriend hugs me from behind) I feel like I'm about to get kidnapped.

But he might be developing feelings for you. If that was an isolated incident maybe not, but if he's doing other little things he might be getting comfortable with the idea that he likes you. I don't know.

hugging a girl from behind is a lot more from the front. He is in control and feels like he's holding onto something he wants.
