Do girls deny their feelings sometimes?

I mean really, this girl gave me strong signals that she liked me, talked a lot, smiled at me, strong eye contact and as soon as I asked her number so we could talk without having to see each other at school, she gave me some lame excuse and started acting weird. I asked her what was wrong and she said "nothing" (but of course something was wrong since the talking,eye contact and smiles stopped, except for some forced smiles) and its not like I asked her out, I thought we were friends and friends do talk outside school, but whatever. After that I stopped talking to her, just saying hi once in a while, she started talking to me again and the long conversation, the smiles, staring, eye contact, constant teasing and silly arguments started once again, but now we have a hot/cold thing going. I feel like she likes me, the way she looks at me, the way she smiles and shyly looks down, the way she treats me differently from everybody else (she tends to be a sarcastic smartass and playfully mean towards me) the way she walks away and looks back and gives me this big smile. Am I misreading something? do girls have a reason to hide their feelings? I don't feel this way with any other of my female friends, its like when we are together, there's something in the air, and people notice it, any thoughts? and no, I'm not interested in being friends with somebody I'm attracted to and we are not friends, technically, since we only see each other at school but for "just classmates" we get along extremely well and she doesn't call me "buddy" like she does with her male friends.

haha, why do you deny them? Its so obvious, she is stubborn, bossy and tries too hard to act like she doesn't like me that comes out the opposite, she criticizes all the things I like and yet she tells people that I'm very smart,isn't that a contradiction

I know how you feel as this girl too gave me every sign under the sun that she liked me her friends even seemed to hint at it and they would talk about me. eventually I did ask her out and she gave me that whole friends thing, that was the ultimate p*ss off after all the signs. For now I just accepted this friends crap and feel that something could happen in the distant future but not any time soon. to me the friendship just feels wrong like somethings missing. sometimes girls do this crazy sh*t and I fidn you just have to accept it and move on even if its temperary.

I don't think she likes you in that way. I think she considers you just a friend.

If she's anything like me, she wants to just have fun and have someone to talk to, but when she thinks you might start to like her, she will try to "push" you away because she doesn't like you in that way. I hope that made sense haha.

Yes, I do deny my feelings Especially for my crush right now. But if he asked me to hang out, I'd say 'yes' in a heartbeat because I like him.

That makes sense, but if she didn't even want to give me her number, some friends we will be. I think I'll just start acting like a jerk towards her, I've done it before and she gets upset, but I'm not interested in being "just friends" with her, she doesn't even act like it, so she could just be faking the whole thing, some people have an ego like that, they think that if they aren't friends with somebody, that somebody will kill him/herself or something lol.

Oh YES!...Though in my case it was not intentional, I just hadn't worked out what it all meant, and then I did and I realized I had been in denial...like I knew, but I didn't listen to my voice in my head...and so kept pushing it aside...until I couldn't lie to myself anymore...although, I may still lie to other's.

It sounds like she enjoys flirting with you, but for whatever reason, she isn't interested in progressing the relationship further. Maybe she's seeing someone else, or maybe she just got out of a bad relationship. I wouldn't try and pursue her further, though, if she couldn't even handle a phone number.

She has never been in a relationship or had a boyfriend (even though she is 20) she is the shy type, she reads a lot and spends a lot of time with her family. I get so frustrated sometimes with her, we could talk and laugh all day, but still don't make any progress to at least talk outside school. Like I commented in another of the answers, maybe acting like a jerk and push her away will be the best option, although she is pretty persistent when I do that, but enough is enough :P

haha, sometimes I think the same thing, so no offense taken. The bossy part is more in a playful way, she is very polite, she does throw the please after a bit of a pause. The stubborn, no doubt about it, but only with me so I'm thinking there must be something that is making her act that way, because I would think that for somebody to change the way they usually are with everybody there must be something going behind the scenes, either like or dislike
