I try to examine them. Not in a creepy way, but to see if we even have a chance of talking. Always texting even during live convos with friends? Nope. Reading a Douglas Adams book? YES!

Then I try to relate to anything, make some comment about something nearby. This is to test her humor so all future jokes will land regardless of how the initial comment was taken. I need to know is she wants somebody who appears sincere, somebody smooth, or if she's attracted to quirky dudes.

I don't really test waters, generally my initial check is for a ring (consistent wearing of ring). If there's no ring, I get a smile, and an enthusiastic response to me being somewhere, I flirt. If not, I don't.
