They don't stop being shallow. As looks become less important, money takes its place more and more. A 21 year old girl can go boyfriend hopping and fulfill her monetary needs that way if she wants. Once the 30's hit, she doesn't have those options, so she looks for the guy with enough money to satisfy her for life. It's even more important if she has or intends to have children.

If she's not a club girl, anywhere as early as 14. If she's a club girl, or loves to drink, loves to party, etc... girls like that are often shallow until they're in the ground.

Mid twenties/early thirties it's sooner than when guys care less about looks or want a girl they find attractive to overlook their appearance.

Late 20s to early 30s is when they realize they should be finding someone with substance. Essentially, it's when they realize that they're not going to live forever.
