How to compliment a Lady?

Hey ladies how do you like being complimented?

I'm fairly curious about this one because I've been told things like to "pander" to the cute ones, just be nice to them or compliment something about them? Which to me is cool but that is all in the same vein and I'm looking to be able to spark a real conversation off of something if that is the way to go whats some follow up things I can say.

I had a guy commenting on how he thought I really looked happy one day and that he genuinely liked that. I was super flattered by that!

Furthermore:
- Saying she's smart
- Commenting on her work/sport/... achievements
- Compliment her smile
- Compliment about a particular part of the outfit she's wearing (eg pretty dress, nice way to wear your hair, nice shoes, ...)
- Complimenting on parts of her personality

If you’re looking to spark conversation, comments about her achievements or what she has going on in her life would be best. I think to me if you just said “hey you have a nice personality” I would be flattered, but if you continued and pointed out all the ways I have a nice personality I would feel a little overwhelmed. Same thing with physical attributes

I feel real chuffed when someone tells me:
- I'm toned or muscly bc I do work hard on that stuff
- how much I mean 2 them
- they like my laugh / smile bc I do use them a lot :)
- I'm good at my sports
- I'm a nice person
- I'm a funny person
- I'm pretty
- I've got a great personality
