Let him know he caught my attention by looking, making eye contact taking it away and looking again. See if he reciprocates. Guys usually get all shy and what not so I approach gently, asking about some mundane crap or whatever task he is engaged in at the time.

If he is someone I see regularly, I'll cut the convo just when it starts to get good and let me catch them looking.

If they are really shy, I'll ask around about them so word gets back to them I've been asking about them and know I'm interested.

Usually helps melt the ice and I'll get their name and maybe their number.

Yes I’m shy to look at him. So I always mess it up when I see him looking. I look down or away. So perhaps I’m going to wave vert quickly at him and then look down
