How would you respond to a smiley face text?

This guy and I have been seeing each other for a while and we are beginning to get kind of serious. But..he left for the whole summer for a study program on the west coast. So we basically only communicate by continuously texting whenever we can get to it. We were having a nice conversation when all he answered was (:

How on Earth am I supposed to continue a conversation for another 30 something days? The only thing I can think of is to awkwardly change the conversation.

This happens to me too sometimes since my boyfriend is in another city and we don't see each other alot.

When he does that I'll respond with something along the lines of "I'd rather see that smile in person, kid!(:" Usually then we're planning for the next time we hangout...

If you don't like that well, here's a few things that have happened to me:

-I send back 2 smilies, he'll send back 3, and I'll send 4 and so on. I think this is pretty lame but we were pretty in love when this happened so it was kind of cute then. haha.

-Just randomly compliment him. i.e. "You're so cute haha.(:"

-Just say something random that you could be doing and change the subject. I know it's kinda lame but he'll be glad you did, especially if it's something really interesting. i.e. "Soo this just happened to me!blahblahblah"

-Don't respond. Text him another day. You don't always need to respond, you know, it's no big deal.(:

when ever that happens to me I reply with a smileyface and then change the subject, or don't reply back and see if he texts you again and if he doesn't wait till he texts you the nxt day

Don't continue.. Back away and see what he does.. Just go at his pace. That is about all you can do
