Messaging a girl on Facebook?

There was a girl I saw on Facebook the other day and I thought she was really pretty. She was in my suggested friends list since she knows someone who I go to church with even tho I don't see said person that often recently since he travels a lot. I want to message the girl and try and ask her out but how would I do this without being weird?

And I would start off with saying something like I know this is kind of creepy but such and such is a friend of mine and you were suggested as a friend on Facebook. I've found myself very attracted to you And I've contemplated over and over whether to send you a message or not. Will here I am and if I offend you or scare you I apologize

Honestly, I've always found it creepy when guys message me on Facebook just because we have a mutual friend. You should ask the mutual about her first and see if he can talk to her about you. Otherwise, I would just not. Just my personal experience.
