Girls, How do girls generally perceive it when a guy says hello? Their initial thoughts?

Do you feel as if the ball is in your court, so to speak? Does it give you confidence knowing it's a guy? He's trying to flirt with me.

The problem, in my age group, is that a random guy saying hello to a totally unknown girl is that it comes as an attempt to flirt. That, to me, is an instant red flag and a sign that I must be cautious.

Because I am civilized, I will say a brief "hi" but that is the end of the conversation for me. I am not interested in dating, nor am I interested in starting a lengthy conversation with someone I am not familiar with. Unfortunately, girls are much more likely to be victims of such approaches than the other way round.

Past experiences have taught me to be careful when addressing strangers. A slightly longer than normal glance at a person can be misinterpreted as a sign of being interested in that person. That is also why I never gawk, glance or stare at people. I do assess a person to see whether I know him/her. That assessment look does not take longer than half a second. If I don't know that person, then I move my eyes to the next target.

That way, you avoid conflicting situations.

Well, this is a bit subjective considering my current relationship status. I would not care for someone trying to flirt with me while engaged. If that is the only intention. I’d politely ignore or remove myself from the situation.

This is just answering your scenario of someone trying to flirt and based on the fact I am engaged. That doesn’t mean that a guy harmlessly saying hello to me wouldn’t be different.

It would also be entirely different if I were single. I’d view flirting in a much different way if single and looking to date. Honestly, I was the one who flirted with my current SO first.

So, while I wouldn’t much care for someone flirting with me now, I wouldn’t be rude about it but rather just remove myself or politely indicate that I wasn’t interested.
