What do you girls honestly think when a guy approaches you?

Question

I've read here time and again that girls think they come across as needy/easy/only for sex/ etc etc if they approach a guy (approaching = talking to a guy they don't know).

But I wonder what girls think when guys do the approaching; and does it differ if he's direct or indirect in his approach?

To be honest, for me it is such a fine line between respect and creeped out and often guys seem to enjoy straddling that line.  I wish I could say that I always 100% respect an approach and at face value I do.  However, it is when a guy seems to believe that because they took the time to approach you that they deserve something from you and at that point it becomes creepy.  If you approach me, you in all honestly deserve nothing but respect.  Often through approaching someone, you do get the opportunity to get to know them better, but only if they accept the opportunity to get to know you that you have put forward by approaching them.  Friends, relationships, one night stands, strangers with an inside joke?, etc. can all form from an approach, but the key is not to expect anything.  You can hope that it goes somewhere but you can't try and force a girl to take the opportunity to get to know you...  I find indirect approaches work better (take this with a grain of salt though because I could just not be noticing a majority of the failed indirect approaches) because there isn't as much pressure as direct approaches, but that may be just a matter of opinion.

I always appreciate it, because I know it might take a lot of effort and courage to just walk up to a girl and start talking. The only times I don't like it is when they're disrespectful, too straightforward and demanding.

So basically, I like it a lot more when the guy is genuinely interested in getting to know me on a personal level, rather than only being interested in getting into my pants. More often than not, it's also very obvious if it's the former or the latter.

It depends how he goes about it. In my experience, there have been guys who have been really demanding in their approach; too forward, "all up in yo face", disrespectful, if you say you're not interested, they want to throw a pity party and call you a "bitch" for rejecting them, like I'm obligated to be interested in them. Honestly, there's so many ways that guys go about it, that really turn me off. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with guys approaching me, but if you're going to do it, do it with respect. Don't come up to me talking about a "Hey baby, what's yo name" and then get mad when I don't respond. You can be direct without all that unnecessary side "slang". You can get your point across, by simply asking how my day is going, how are you, any appropriate small talk and go from there.

Itd depend on the setting. If it was at school or a coffee shop I'd think he was interested in me and found me pretty or interesting and wanted to get to know me. If it was at a club, well then I'd think he was in it for sex and blow him off.

And direct or indirect?

Direct would be nice if he said "You're interesting, we should get to know each other," instead of just "I think you're f***ing cute."

Indirect makes it seem like he's shy or nervous and finding an excuse to talk to me or get to know me, which is cuter cause I guess yeah it does indicate he may be in it for other reasons then sex.

If he's not ugly or boring, it will be a plus for him. Depending of course if he's sleezy, needy or just a cool guy. I will react well to most approaches, but you do have to know when a girl is trying to get rid of you. Some guys just won't leave when I'm indicating that he should leave me alone. If his words don't ruin it for him, then not taking hints definitely will.

My impression of him depends a lot on his specific words and body language. Some guys I can tell right off the bat want to get in my pants. Other guys I can tell are more shy and looking for more than sex.

If the former came and approached me, I'd let him know that I can't give him what he's looking for. If the latter did, I'd respect him for having the courage to approach and I'd help him out in the conversation.

It depends of the guy approaching. If the guy makes me crazy I'll like him to take the first step. But if I don't like the guy I'll hate his approach. You'll have to look at the eyes of the girl to see if she's crazy for you or not, or if at least she likes you.

It honestly depends on how I am being approached.

If a guy approaches me with a comment on my physical appearance, I automatically think he thinks I am sexually attractive and therefore he would indeed want sex from me.

If a guy approaches me in a completely non flirty friendly manner, I would assume he was trying to be acquainted with me or get to know me better because he want to be a friend of mine.

i wouldn't judge him right away. I went to a club last night and got hit on by a lot of boys. I watched and listened but it seemed like most wanted something romantic which isn't what I was looking for so I only talked to the less aggressive ones especially the nerdy type.

if I'm not approaching I'm busy; not ready ; or not interested.

I'd say it depends on the situation. If you're at a place/ event where people are supposed to make new friends then its okay (like parties, clubs, pubs etc). If I'm minding my own business for example having lunch then sometimes I don't like to be disturbed. I might think you have some kind of suspicious hidden agenda but if you're hot then why not

I personally don't mind when a guy approaches me! If he's attractive/outgoing/friendly, I will definitely strike up a conversation with him, however things may not end up in my bed! It's a matter of personality really, and if my soul mate happens to be a random guy that approached me, SO BE IT!
