How to talk to cute guy that sits next to you in class?

I’m just started sophomore year and this new guy who I think is really cute sits next to me in my history class. He’s really good at tech stuff and was helping the teacher which I was gonna compliment him on that before I got scared. I don't know if this counts for anything but our class is pretty small and most of the seats are empty and he choose to sit next to me first day (there’s none else around us so we only rlly have each other to talk to) I’m hoping this means he at least sees me as a friendly enough person. I’ve heard guys say most girls have a 85% success rate talking to guys no matter what but I mean I think I’m cute but I don't know if I’m THAT cute you know? I really want to get to know him or at least just be on friendly terms but I don’t know what to say that wouldn’t be awkward or make him think I’m weird?
