My friend and I went to a restaurant and all the booths were taken or dirty, so we just sat at one and got moved to a small table with just two close chairs instead. She joked about it being romantic and responded well to my Lady and the Tramp jokes. Although she still wanted to move back to a booth.
Later, while discussing my failed love life, she joked about us getting together. Is it possible that she was flirting? I noticed that she was twirling her hair a lot while we spoke if that means anything.

We aren't dating. Just friends. But I'm wondering if this is a joke someone would make as a friend without any serious intent behind it.

No prospective woman wants to hear about your failures on the front end. It demonstrates whiny and likely what you are complaining about she identifies with. Do you not realize that you are degrading a woman to another woman. Guess who your date has more in common with... Your EX girlfriend or the Guy crying on her shoulder possibly not over the EX?

We are good friends and both confide in the other about these things having gone through similar situations. She's the one who encouraged me to break up with her after all the emotional abuse. And she's the one who asked me about it.

That would have been good to know. So you are long-time friends…this all makes sense now. She does or does not want to take it up a notch. Here’s a Truth: whether friend or whatever Men/Women relationships are based upon Attraction. Something about each of you attracted you too one another. Have you ever tried to label that? Pinpoint it together? That may be a worthy subject to analyze especially if “status change” is a possibility? Thinking out loud…

We became friends during uni as we were both sort of last picks and formed a group together due to that. I suppose we became good friends when I first confided something important in her. So if you mean in any way, then I guess I would say that what attracted me to her was that was able to trust her, along with her sense of humour. I'm not sure what attracted her to me, but she felt comfortable telling me about her past, so I suppose something similar.
If you mean in a physical sense, then I do largely fit her general type. She's asked me what my type is, but my physical preferences are very broad and I'm not really sure. I can at least say that she's attractive to me.

Not so much the dynamic as much as its underpinning. Attraction: something in her that places her above or > others. That initial drawing is best described as an Emotion?, however, grounded in some things said Emotion is "ohh, she's hot", "value determined Same by others", intellect, scent...

Then I guess I was attracted to her straightforwardness and humour at first. It started platonic, and we became close friends with it remaining platonic. But at some point, I began to see her differently, probably because I came to realise that we want the same things in life and can understand each other well.
And I keep wondering if certain things she does show that she is considering it too. Though I focus on the bad signs despite the many good signs. It's certainly never felt heated. I wouldn't say romantic either, but maybe a few times could be described as such. But there have been times when we felt much closer to each other than usual.

Sounds like friends to me. Usually by 30, people realize that best long-term “Marriage Material” could likely be the friend that one has always had 🤷🏻‍♂️
