I literally don't get it...

Ok so I was waiting in line and the guy that works there walks up to me and says "you're shoes are untied" and I look down... but I was wearing boots that didn't have shoe laces. He said "made you look"

I thought he was a dickhead.

My friend told me he was just flirting with me.

I literally don't get it.

I thought flirting was always something sexual or if a guy compliments you.

So this has happened before were a guy puts me in the stop and jokes... but I always just assume he's a dickhead... I don't know why it's considered flirting... it put me on the spot to laugh at a crappy joke...

Or maybe it's just me and I've been desensitized to crappy jokes because I grew up on old school sitcoms.

It's considered flirting because it's supposed to make you smile/laugh, or to anyway cause a reaction. It's for sure a very cringe way to do that, my ovaries would retract up to my lungs and he would have burned his chances in the same moment he tried to get one, but some guys with poor social skills try it that way. If you don't like it (because it speaks about the guy as well somehow), then just take it like if he is a dickhead indeed, and don't think much about him. I think in your situation I'd feel an Arctic breeze in my heart and look at him seriously for a couple of seconds without any facial reaction, then look away again to mind my business...
Said that, flirting is not necessarily aimed to greater plans behind: one might just flirt to play only, without actual attraction, and wouldn't go further even if invited to. Sometimes it's just to annoy girls to see them react, smile, laugh, and that's only it. That makes them feel cool I guess, and to "own" the ladies for a second, by surprising them.
And: even if you perceive it as flirting, you don't need to react positively to that. It shouldn't change the way you react internally to that, so that doesn't matter much, at the end of the day, if that was flirting or not.

I am smart. I know he was joking but it wasn't funny. Why didn't he think before he spoke? Didn't he know it wasn't funny and it does show any romantic interest. He just made himself look like a dickhead. He might not be but he made himself look like one
