Hi guys I’m a cashier and was ringing up a hot guy and chatting and I mentioned how I had homework and he asked what kind so I said nursing and then at the end of the conversation he asked my name and told me his, I think I got the vibe he’s interested but what do you guys think? Also wondering why he didn’t get my number like maybe he’s a regular and he will soon? Thoughts please

Your entire question is conflicting.

Why did you ring up that man? Was it a call your manager asked you to make? Why would you even tell a client about your private life? This is definitely not professional and the manager should intervene as it is probably against company rules to flirt with customers while at work.

If the call you made was not work related, then why did you call up that guy? Was it just to introduce yourself and attempt to hit on him? In that case, you are the one introducing yourself and not so much the guy as your question suggests.

He did not get your number simply because he is not interested and wants to keep the conversation casual.

I believe that you would wish that he was interested in you but from your narrative, this is not really very clear.

The asker was working the cashier, and a customer came up which which to them is considered highly appealing. She was scanning at the register the items which the guy wished to purchase, or in other words, ringing him up.

Assuming that you've been to a store at least once in your life, you would know that the person working the register interacts with strangers at a very close physical distance, plus outgoing or socially courageous people will chat with the cashier.

That is highly unprofessional and if I was the boss, that would simply mean that I would have to reprimand her because this is simply something you don't do as an employee. End of story.

I know what you mean, but you do need to understand that working the register forces you to interact with people in person. Some of these people, like I said, are more extroverted and start conversations with cashiers, especially if they have a lot of items. If it's a specialized store where there's little traffic, such people may be even more emboldened to start a longer conversation, because there's no pressure from other customers.

Unprofessional? Yes. But people like to talk to each other. Him being physically attractive gives him an unspoken pass for trying to pick up women.
