I'll give you an example: I was out working, doing food deliveries. I went to a restaurant to pick up an order. I had been there once before. The girl working behind the counter was really pretty. She was the same one who was working there last time I came. The first time I saw her, I was kind of in shock and awe of her beauty; so I didn't say anything, of course. Just made the transaction and got out. This time -- the second time -- I remembered her (of course; how could you forget an angel like that?); but I had had enough time to process her existence and emotionally deal with it, and I had already grown a cold heart about her. (Because that is my modus operandus: noticing beautiful girls and growing a cold heart. I'm very emo.)
So I had my poker face on (which is what I wear to ensure that a hot girl doesn't think that I like her.) Unfortunately, my poker face is actually a Resting Bitch Face. So it may come off as a bit unfriendly. Maybe she might have even thought I was scowling at her. (I wasn't, really; I was just trying to cope with my internal angst. And I guess that ends up showing on the outside. The darkness in my heart and the pain in my soul.). But truthfully, I don't hate her. Not at all. I just hate myself for not knowing what to say to a woman.
Anyway, I noticed that she seemed a bit cold and rigid herself. So maybe she was mirroring the energy that I was giving off towards her. I was a bit surprised, though, and kind of embarrassed. I felt bad, because I thought that maybe I had taken it too far and come off as a bit TOO intense. I never wanted to come off as mean or rude. Just "not interested," that's all. All I wanted was to hide and camouflage my attraction and infatuation with her.
So, what do you guys think? Did she know that I liked her? Did she see through the mask, and was she annoyed that I was hiding it? Or did my deceptive maneuver work (too well) and did she actually think that I disliked her?

If you like her, why not just smile at her? What’s the worst that can happen?
Even if she didn’t smile back ( she probably will) it’s not going to break your heart.
How can you open up communication with a poker face? What will that achieve? If she is as beautiful as you say, there are a hundred other guys who will think nothing of walking up to her and asking her for her number, & that will be your real miss out.
Do you want to waste time with guessing games? If you are cold to her, she will assume you are cold. What else is she supposed to think? A pretty girl doesn’t walk around expecting the whole world to fall at her feet. If she had options, which she does. One guy who glares at her won’t faze her.
At this stage, she won’t be thinking about whether you like her. She won’t be thinking about you either way. She will probably be thinking about the other delivery guy who goes in, says hello, makes her laugh and brightens her day.
As humans, we are drawn to people who make us feel good.

i think people can read body langauge and most people respond to that. act nice and you will get nice, Show resting bitch face and you’re going to get that back. She doesn’t know u and has no clue u are attracted to you with that behavior

People and women in general can usually tell, although sometimes they mistake a certain sign or behavior for something else entirely. In your case I can't say for sure, but it seems she got pissed off that you got cold with her and decided to reply in kind. Maybe try to be a little more friendly and see how she reacts.

If you were mean, she'd understand and not like you back probably. Girls only think a guy likes them if he's intentionally nice/ thoughtful/ mindful/ complimentary/ appreciative and etc. Maybe she interpreted you as a busy worker on an off day, and nothing with interest. ;-;

Your question in title, and story are two different entities. I think people can recognize when someone is interested if you, you know, tell them. Or simply dance around it trying to get them into you. If you never say anything and just stare at them, I'd say that's just weird.

Ot really depends. I usually know if guy is into me but not all women know. In your example i wouldn't think she would know u r into her at all as yes being distant can camiflage it. She couldve been just more cold w u cause u were that way, so its not like a friendly interaction. But i wouldn't think that someone would assume u hate the person acting more cold.
No, a woman can't tell in the man has a poker face. If the man is friendly or smiley at the woman then the woman will know that the man likes her. Also, even if the woman knew that the man liked her she probably would not make a move if she liked him back because women have more options than men. So, if you really like a woman then make a move. Life is too short anyways.
@razelove I'm not worried about getting rejected. I'm only worried about my reputation. I just don't want to be seen as the guy who's always hitting on women. That's why I never talk to them.
Makes sense, I'd say if she's your co-worker drop it, if she's just affiliated through a client or another company, don't worry about it. You can't avoid co-workers, you can get assigned to a different client though.
@razelove Nah, we're not coworkers. I work for a delivery company and she works for the restaurant, so my relationship with her is that of a business associate. (I still want to remain professional and not cause any waves.)
I just don't want us to hate each other. I'm okay with her being indifferent. But I'm the type of person who wants peace with all human beings. That's why I was kind of upset with myself because I felt like I took it too far and actually introduced a negative vibe.
I suggest going forward that you don’t contrive a way of acting around her. Just do what comes naturally without concern about what she thinks of you. If she can tell you find her attractive, so be it. It doesn’t harm you if she picks up on that, and you will be better able to maintain serenity if you don’t worry about how to approach her.
Oh, I see. The good news is as long as you remain gentlemanly and polite the business relationship should be fine. If she’s attractive she’s used to men being attracted to her. So your behavior is what really counts in this case.

Rereading I realized it didn't come across right. You likely wouldn't invest much into the relationship if someone didn't invest into the relationship to not even text once a day if you're not seeing each other. I know I wouldn't if someone wasn't giving me attention.
I want to say yes most of the time, but some guys are sneaky and don’t give it away then do something creepy later. I definitely prefer the confident guys that don’t try to hide it to be honest lol.
