What's the difference between Teasing and Insulting?

We tease people about traits they acknowledge and aren't sensitive about. Picking on their insecurities is nasty.

It can be an insult if the delivery is just blatantly insulting, no matter how you look at it.

Like, if you asked 20 people and they all unanimously agreed that it was an insult, then it’s an insult, because of the delivery — how it was worded and how it was said.

The other thing is intention. If what was spoken was more ambiguous and could be perceived differently depending on how you look at it, then it’s the intention that’s the deciding factor here.

Did the speaker intend to insult? Or did they only intend to have some well-meaning banter?

Teasing is basically cracking wise, while insulting is attempting to berate or belittle someone.
