Why do guys always look away when we pass each other on the street?

I've noticed that whenever I am out by myself, and I see a guy (regardless of his age) walking towards me, he would look away - whether it be subtly or abruptly - just as we get close. And I'm just wondering why this is; is it because I'm ugly and they don't want to appear interested or what?

I never break eye contact with a girl I'm passing on the street, some people say it's creepy but I don't think it is, I mean if you're both looking at each other then there is clear interest... it's great when you keep eye contact with someone who catches your eye then when you pass you both look back to see is the other one still looking and you catch each other looking agann hahahaah. I think some guys may be shy and awkward, or are just intimidated by eye contact, I know a lot who are

I didn't believe I was, and my friends would say the same, but I am slowly beginning to feel ugly because of this.

I can tell you this: the more insecure a guy is the more likely he is to abruptly break eye contact (if he thinks you're good looking) ...maybe the guys are just looking at you to check you out and when they're done they look away so as to not look like they are staring... I do this all the time...plus when walking past someone I don't hold eye contact past a certain point unless I'm going to say something.

I don't think it's you specifically...a lot of people do this with strangers, especially ones around our age...both genders find the other intimidating...think that's why...

Probably nervous, or think you would think they were a creeper if you caught them staring at you

Maybe you also caught their glare and they were shy and looked away.

it would be kinda awkward walkin by and just staring at you, especially if your walking towards each other. they probably just wanna avoid an awkward moment

No I barely make eye contact with them, I can just tell from the corner of my eyes.
