The previous time we had seen each other, I dropped my biggest hint so far that I like him. There are some professional boundaries around us so I think we're both testing the waters. Him rubbing my back sent electricity through my body so I'm wondering if the chemistry is mutual. Could it be his sign of flirting?

Well flirting is good to see if there is mutual interest and to see if the other person catches on and how they react most of the time I encourage people to go the direct route but I can understand in situations that are more risky.

If you are into him express it and see where things go because the last thing you want to do is wait too long. What happens a lot of times is you’re not the only person probably into him. He may decide in his head it’s not worth the risk and move on. You could also do the same thing. But at the end of the day waiting too long many times is a snooze you loose situation.

If you took things the wrong way (I doubt you did based off context you provided but IF) then you’ll have closure you’ll never wonder what it could have been and you won’t waste anymore of your time. The same thing goes if he says he’s interested but he’s just not going to act on it. Same thing.

My guess is that it is mutual but you'll never know if you don’t ask and just try for a date. It can be as simple as having a cup of coffee together and talking outside or work for a first date. If one of you isn’t feeling it it’s easy to dip or you can stay and talk for hours.

I think you flirted and seen signs of mutual interest now it’s time for you to just make the move.

Arrange with a few female friends to go to a a happy hour after work one day. Invite him to join the group. Ask the others, in advance, to wait a reasonable time and then leave so you will have some alone time with him. There you are, away from work and free to be yourselves. That sets the stage for him to make a move, if that is his intention.

The fact that he hugged you is a good sign that he likes you. The extra rubbing on your back makes me think he is attracted to you as that is not common during a typical platonic hug.
