Is Lily being insecure?

So I had a small birthday party. At that birthday party the guys who tend to have this sort of humor of saying flirty things to each other as jokes. My friend Ashley was there and was contributing to said jokes well when one of the guys said a stripper joke to Liam and Ashley said “I’d do that”. It was taken as she was flirting with Liam. Liam is engaged and Ashley met his fiancée once but was just saying jokes and wasn’t really directing it towards him but he took it that way or it least sounded that way. Anywho me and my man were invited to Liam’s and fiancée Lily’s party and I asked if Ashley could come. Liam responded through text that Ashley made him uncomfortable and that it would cause problems at the party with his girl. Anywho I was like that’s fine but when I was there Lily said she “hate her and she’s not invited to my place” because of what happened. I just think like that’s reasonable to not want her there but also just kinda insecure of her to be like I hate her. When it was most likely a simple mistake and Ashley forgot he was taken and didn’t remember meeting Lily. As she does have a bad memory. At the very least she could’ve heard Ashley out about it maybe not at that party but I don't know. Thoughts?

Ah man, that's a bit of a tricky situation. It sounds like there was just a bit of a misunderstanding and some insecurities all around.

On one hand, I can see why Liam might have felt a bit uncomfortable with Ashley's comment, even if it was just meant as a silly joke. When you're engaged, you gotta be a little extra careful about that kind of flirty joking, you know? It's understandable that he wanted to set some boundaries and not have her at the party.

But Lily's response of straight-up hating on Ashley and not even wanting to hear her out seems a little harsh and insecure, if I'm being honest. If it was just a case of Ashley forgetting Liam was taken and getting carried away with the joking, then Lily could have at least given her the benefit of the doubt instead of just writing her off.

I get that she's probably feeling protective of her relationship, but shutting Ashley out completely and refusing to even hear her side seems a little extreme. A more mature approach would be to talk to Ashley directly, set some clear boundaries, and try to move past it. Jumping straight to "I hate her" is a bit much.

Honestly, it sounds like a classic case of miscommunication and overreaction. Ashley probably didn't mean any harm, Liam got a little uncomfortable, and Lily responded with way too much hostility. If they all just sat down and talked it through calmly, I'm sure they could have come to an understanding.

At the end of the day, I think Lily's reaction was a bit too insecure and aggressive. She could have handled it in a more mature, level-headed way. But I get that emotions were probably running high. Hopefully they can all move past it and find a way to coexist peacefully, even if Ashley doesn't end up at their next party.
