How to flirt with a coworker in a different department?

I work as a cashier in a grocery store. I have a work crush on this guy my age who works in online orders, I occasionally will see him walk around to get items for orders and we've spoken very few times and it has been brief comments passed between us. I do notice him noticing me, and he's made an effort before to linger around me. I am quite positive that it's not all in my head and the attraction is mutual. So far he's been the initiator of conversations and he's pretty smooth with it, i'm kind of awkward and shy so I've been having trouble expressing interest back. What would be the best way to do so if I don't see him often and when I do it's very brief encounters? I don't want to come off too strong as well because we haven't really talked thoroughly before, I just want to give him a sign that I am interested in him as well. Thank you!

You never ever flirt or fornicate with a coworker. End of story. There are way too many risks that something goes wrong.

Furthermore, you are at work to work and not to "have fun". You receive a wage or salary to do what has been assigned to you and not to text and perhaps forget your customers and to give them a favor.

Flirting at work may most probably cause 2 major issues. 1. jealousy among your coworkers and 2. favoritism.

You may leave in a short while but he will have to stay and besides fornicating, what kind of fun can you have in such a short period of time?

No offense when I say this, but if you're shy by nature, you most likely aren't going to be able to be that confident in communicating/expressing your interest. I am just saying if you haven't done it before, you're probably not going to do it now, and if you do you will probably mess it up if it's your first time. Which will have to happen at some point anyway in order for you to gain more experience.

Also - take this from someone who has worked in retail in the past - it's better not to do that with a co-worker. There's a lot of sex and dating in retail, but just because other people do it doesn't mean it's right or wise. Not to mention, if you're going abroad soon, why even temporarily mess with this guy, get him having feelings for you, and then just leave him? That's not cool.
