Is my friendly liquor store cashier actually flirting with me?

I've been shopping at the same liquor store for several months. I always thought one of the cashiers was cute, but I never did anything about it because I know he's working and I didn't want to make things awkward.

At first it was just the usual "how's your day?" stuff, which I figured was just customer service. Then over time I started noticing he seemed to recognize me. If I ended up at another cashier, he'd sometimes call over and talk to me from his register. One time we hadn't seen each other for about a week and I mentioned it, asking if he'd been on vacation. He said no, he'd actually been working almost every day and we must have just kept missing each other.

Since then we've had quite a few conversations. He's asked about my drink preferences, we've talked for a couple of minutes while he was checking me out, and one time customers actually went to another register because we were still talking. He's also remembered random things about me. One day I came in without my usual backpack and before I even got to the register he laughed and said, "Oh! No backpack!" Another time he remembered I'd told him I had a day off and asked me how it went.

The interaction that really threw me happened recently. I walked into the store and saw him. We made eye contact and he waved. I wasn't sure he was waving at me so I turned away, but when I looked back he was still looking at me and waved a second time, almost like he wanted to make sure I saw him.

The only thing making me question myself is that he's at work, and I know cashiers are supposed to be friendly. I also don't want to mistake someone recognizing a regular customer for flirting. If you were looking at this objectively, would you think this is just someone who's friendly and remembers regulars, or does it sound like there could be something more?

Another thing I forgot to mention: I obviously don't watch every interaction he has with customers, so I know I could be wrong. But from what I've personally seen, I haven't noticed him calling out to other customers from different registers or waving at them like he did with me. He also seems to remember little things about me like me not wanting a bag or receipt. I know those things could just be because I'm a regular, but they're part of what's making me question whether I'm reading too much

I think this gentleman is really interested in you. If it is something more than just being acquainted, time will tell. If I were you and also had an interest, I think it could be a good idea to get his social media contacts and start talking for real.

Friendship is a nice start for many things. I hope neither of you is already in a relationship with someone else, though.

You could make up some 'poor / funny' excuse to give him your contact information—something like, 'I'd love to buy XYZ, but I can't find it here... could you let me know if or when the store gets it? Please send me a message here: [your contact info].'

Use your own words and creativity. I'm sure this gentleman would be glad to help you... and once the link is established, you could talk about other things, and he will also have the opportunity to do so.

He many just be a friendly guy, but it seems like he likes you. If you are too shy to invite him to do something with you, all you can do is keep doing what you are doing and hope he asks you. If you decide you will ask him out, try to find out first if he is single.

Ask him if he’s flirting and work up the nerve to go, “would you like to go on a date?”

And don’t worry about being shy or anything, just shoot your shot. He’ll like you for being the honest version of yourself.

My first instinct reaction and first initial thought is do you personally find them attractive?

I do, yeah. As I said in the post earlier, I always thought he was really attractive, but I never tried to speak to him past the normal checkout procedure. So I was really happy when we broke the ice. I just don't know if he's being a friendly cashier or if he's interested back

Okay sorry for bad question. i would play this safe and say friendly if you are a regular often customer he sees you at times.
