Let's say a store employee smiles at you, laughs at your witty comments or even compliments you, should you take it as a compliment? Not to say that they are lying to you to try to boost sales, but at they exaggerating their friendliness?

Most likely they're adhering to the basic rules of customer service aka be polite and friendly.

Let's say a store employee smiles at you, laughs at your witty comments or even compliments you, should you take it as a compliment?

If you want to though most likely it's a canned response as being unpleasant or unfriendly can likely get them in trouble.

Not to say that they are lying to you to try to boost sales, but at they exaggerating their friendliness?

Likely they're exaggerating their friendliness as it seems those in customer service have to be welcoming and warm to customers not standoffish or cold.

Yeah, generally. Not lying, but exaggerating. Because of their environment, they have to give off more hospitality.

For that reason, I only count compliments from women who are not selling me anything.

I don't know, but one time I was at a store and the cashier said: "Oh my God, you have the prettiest eyes and the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!" It felt good (duh!) and also, it made me want to go to that same store for some more compliments =D

Well I think usually you can tell if they actually like you or are just being friendly by the way the look at you
